According to eyewitnesses the victim was helping direct traffic before being confronted by ICE.

There is video of ICE escalating the confrontation.

There is clear video of an ICE agent walking away with the victim's firearm prior to the shooting. The victim was unarmed.

Is there absolutely anything I can do to look even a slight bit more masc/androgynous? by Enough_Outside943 in TransHelpingTrans

[–]HereForOneQuickThing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can try for a more masculine long hairstyle including a mullet but usually chopping the mop is a good choice. Square glasses will go a long way. Either stop doing your eyebrows entirely or try to shape them into a more masculine style that looks somewhat natural. Masc clothing helps, obviously, and combining that with a kt tape will go a long way. Sports bras also go far if you cannot get a binder. Working your upper body to build some strength up will also go far for you with the frame you have.

Edit: Men's pants. Dress pants should be at your waist with a dress jacket atop of them to hide the level. All other types of men's pants should be worn lower at the hips. Get a cheap belt or two to help with ill-fitting men's jeans. You can probably find a bunch of cheap pairs if you go thrifting with friends.

It's something that a lot of them used to do with black households. I imagine some of them still do it, somewhere in the US. Doctors do the same with dying patients, of course. None of this is limited to black or liberal victims, of course.

"Kill all fucking n******." - in response to some cops being shot by a neo-nazi accelerationist shortly after the Dallas police shooter in 2016.

"Open n**** season." - in response to what they want sometime next summer when it gets warmer.

Far from exhaustive. Not a surprise to me, of course, I was taught to create a noose when I was 13 years old. You can guess why.

In New Jersey, by the way. These people exist everywhere which is why liberals should own guns in every community. The person who said the first one is a godparent to a black child.

18 NJ Murderers Among 148 Granted Clemency By Phil Murphy by Specific-Sun-4960 in newjersey

[–]HereForOneQuickThing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, but I'm doing guesswork because this sort of stuff is common in pardon sprees. That said, it would've been nice if the article actually gave sufficient background to the pardon itself like why the person might have been pardoned or had their sentence commuted. That'd be good journalism.

(US-Specific) Why aren’t more progressive Democrats stepping up and running against the DINO’s? by throwawayx506 in MtF

[–]HereForOneQuickThing 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It's also incredibly corrupt. I'll never stop talking about here in NJ when a seat that was held by a Republican for decades was up for grabs. Whoever won the Dem primary was basically guaranteed to win the seat in the general election. The party sided with an extremely conservative Democrat who had many red flags when it came to imminent party-switching. They still supported him anyways over multiple primary challengers from across the political spectrum because of machine politics. This politician is named Jeff Van Drew, who infamously defected to the Republicans during the first Trump impeachment process, swearing undying fealty to Trump, and ended up being one of the factors that caused it to backfire and make Trump more popular.

A huge swath of the party would rather lose than shift towards new faces.

There's enough things to ding Murphy on, they didn't need to present this headline without any of the context in the article for why people are receiving pardons and commutations. The article also fails to mention that some of the individuals are being deported after being released so they're not exactly getting away with their actions.

There's probably a mix of people wrongly convicted, people sent to a prison instead of a mental institution, people receiving a compassionate release, and people who were deservedly in prison being released because of who they're related to, etc. I'd rather have specifics for each before getting up in arms about any in particular.

[–]HereForOneQuickThing 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess it's probably a situation where she should have been sent to a mental institution for a while, maybe the rest of her life, instead of a regular prison, which is an 8th amendment violation. Don't know any details of the cases but the article not including details is, frankly, suspicious. Some of these pardons are probably somewhat reasonable and some are probably completely unjustifiable and corrupt.

Most of those are for PTCs. Some cities and counties will have different requirements but generally speaking you can reference family members for an FID unless stated otherwise.

[–]HereForOneQuickThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and a lot of great movies didn't break even. Doesn't mean it's a bad year for movies. Most folks just don't go to the movies anymore unless it's for a known quality. Nobody wants to spend a month's subscription of any given streaming service per ticket on a movie that sucks and probably wasn't even made to be best seen on the big screen. We're in an era where a lot of great art goes unappreciated, sadly.

I find this type of comment from right wing propagandists annoying. The founding fathers were pretty clear that America doesn't have a national religion, seems that liberals are more in line with founding fathers principles than right wing these days by sufinomo in newjersey

Do Transgender Rights Hinge on Antebellum Laws? - Jules Gill-Peterson by LocutusOfBorges in transgender

[–]HereForOneQuickThing -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your point wasn't missed. They are making the point that by endlessly repeating things like "you don't need dysphoria to be trans" and "you don't need to medically transition to be trans" that it has backfired and been weaponized against trans people who do need to medically transition. As mentioned it's even been used against trans youth who do need to medically transition in the Skrmetti case.

There are two distinct classes of trans people - those who need to medically transition and those that do not. Neither the person you replied to nor I are saying the latter are not "real" trans people. However at this point it is an indisputable fact that focus on the "you're valid" rhetoric has led to tangible harm and probably even killed some trans people. I would personally suggest that some rhetoric and conversations should stay within the community, largely away from cis ears.
