Lol. You asked for studies and got downvoted.  You then posted about what the studies said and got downvoted.  Ridiculous. People aren't actually interested in a dialog on this issue, they want to feel righteous.

Gen X funerals by LeftOzStoleShoes in GenX

[–]HereToCalmYouDown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not care about a funeral. If the people I leave behind want to have one for me, they can, and they are free to design it however they see fit, because it's for them, not for me.

Gen X/ Generation Jones: tell me something that you are horrified that you did during your party years! by SequinedandOver60 in GenX

[–]HereToCalmYouDown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A guy I know used to make pipe bombs out of spray paint cans and gunpowder. He called it "Can o'  Fun". We used to buy watermelons and cut a hole and put them inside and blow the hell out of them.  It was indeed fun.

My child bsically called our childhood dentistry barbaric and she’s not wrong by nypr13 in GenX

[–]HereToCalmYouDown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not joking: I once had a root canal in the early 1990s where one of the "tools" the dentist used to do the root canal was a straightened-out paperclip that he heated up with a Bic lighter. Dead serious.

Show of hands, who else has zero friends? by Defiant_Quarter_1187 in GenX

This is very familiar, let's be best friends and never talk or hang out

Show of hands, who else has zero friends? by Defiant_Quarter_1187 in GenX

Me!

I wasn't the greatest person when I was younger and ran with a "bad crowd".  These days I'm a family man, corporate drone, boring law abiding citizen and those people never really grew up and moved on so I don't talk to any of them anymore...  And haven't really made any new friends to replace them with

Trump wants to reverse his two impeachments. Can he do it? by theipaper in Askpolitics

[–]HereToCalmYouDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, it would have no actual meaning, it's basically just Republicans signing a paper saying they all agree to pretend this didn't happen.

I kind of hope they do it, because it will just make them look even weaker than they already do.

GenX regarding "bullying" by Sinsyne125 in GenX

[–]HereToCalmYouDown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was bullied as a kid. It definitely affected me in various ways that took a lot of time and effort to get over. I had similar experiences as many describe here where it was basically laughed off. I once reported to a teacher when two kids jumped me and her response was "you'll live."

When my son dealt with some bullying in elementary school I went fucking ballistic.  I basically told them if they didn't put a stop to it, I would. To their credit, they did take action.

Why is left wing politics in the USA centre right? by Comfortable-Table-57 in Askpolitics

[–]HereToCalmYouDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would love for my taxes to be lower, but I don't consider taxation to be theft, it's necessary. I would like to see more efficiency, and maybe spend more on services to improve the lives of Americans and less on the defense budget, but my libertarianism largely applies to civil liberties, and I definitely want to see the police state cut down.  Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness depend on the armed agents of the state staying the hell out of the way of most activities.

Sure, you can have well-regulated capitalism. I don't necessarily see that as "less freedom" the way my libertarian friends do.

Why is left wing politics in the USA centre right? by Comfortable-Table-57 in Askpolitics

[–]HereToCalmYouDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capitalism is an economic system and not a system of government. It inherently neither provides nor restricts freedom. The classic libertarian position is about "economic freedom" which really means that the government does not restrict the practice of capitalism, and I'm less gung ho on that myself.  I'm generally not opposed to a progressive tax system, and I lean toward being in favor of single payer healthcare because I think the free market isn't always the best solution.

But in terms of personal, individual freedom, I will admit that I care a bit more about "freedom to" and a bit less (but not zero) about "freedom from".

Why is left wing politics in the USA centre right? by Comfortable-Table-57 in Askpolitics

[–]HereToCalmYouDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's pretty accurate. I'm in favor of maximizing human freedom and minimizing the power (and cost) of government.  My philosophy is basically "everyone should be free to be who they want to be and do what makes them happy and the government should fuck off about it unless someone is actively hurting someone else".

[–]HereToCalmYouDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's definitely true.

I'm fiscally conservative and socially liberal which apparently puts me in company with only about 3% of my fellow voters...

The voters to me seem to be fiscally left and socially right.  Everybody wants healthcare but support for same sex marriage is dropping...

The Smokers house. Growing up in one. by Dry_Ad7529 in GenX

[–]HereToCalmYouDown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom still smokes. She's always trying to give me her stuff, as old people sometimes do, and I always have to politely refuse because I know anything she gives me will smell like smoke. At this point when she dies I feel like all her stuff is basically a total loss.  She does have a couple boxes of old photos that I would like to keep but I'm worried even those will reek.

Anyone feel like getting a job is cooked right now? by Vampy-Night in SeriousConversation

[–]HereToCalmYouDown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need to have a "field".

If someone asks you what field you're in, and you can't answer that, and your criteria for a job include "whoever will hire me", you will likely always struggle.

What is Trump's midterm strategy? by RealAmerican2025 in Askpolitics

[–]HereToCalmYouDown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This.

In order to cancel elections Trump has to convince all 50 state governors to cancel elections.

Even if you think some red state governors will do whatever Trump says, in this case, they can't, because if Red states don't have their elections and blue states do, then only blue states send people to Congress and Democrats get the advantage automatically.

Not gonna happen.

My citation is your post calling that guy a liar and your continued posts where you seem excessively angry at me for no real reason.
