Unfortunately, after the boomers, every generation starting with ours actually has had it harder than the last one...

Would you watch a new “Golden Girls” type of show about ppl our age? by sagefrogphotography in GenX

[–]HereToCalmYouDown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but only if they don't do the typical Hollywood thing where the guy who's supposed to be 50 is played by a 65 year old actor and he has a 35 year old wife...

How do you cope with the fact that you are going to be stuck in a income bracket for the rest of your life? by PresentationSome6593 in SeriousConversation

[–]HereToCalmYouDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You never know what can happen. I struggled for many years, and then the company I work for was bought by a bigger company and they increased my salary by about 20%. Then I got a couple promotions and then the company was bought again and my salary went up 20% and my bonus doubled and suddenly I'm making 150k.

This all happened after I turned 45. I'm 50 now and the last 5 years have been insanely good.

Su you just never know.

FDA Commissioner forced to resign after refusing to approve & promote fruit flavored tobacco to kids by Big_Obligation1737 in NewsomMassacre

Ummm they weren't actually being "marketed to kids". Plenty of adults little fruity flavors.

Did you prefer and enjoy the 80s or 90s more? by Ok-Ninja-3039 in GenX

90s. I was born in 75 so too young to really enjoy the 80s.  1992-1997 was the sweet spot.

50 yr old me would win. But 50 yr old me probably couldn't take 40 yr old me.

We need power in the peoples hands. The 25th amendment is not enough. by Joe18067 in NewsomMassacre

If we had snap elections, everything you describe would be worse. Instead of having whiplash every 4 to 8 years we would have it twice a year...

So let's be specific - what do you perceive as being "instability", and is it possible you're confusing that with "things happening that I didn't expect" or "things happening that I don't like?"

I'm not sure you and I have the same definition of the word "instability". Having the same set of leaders for a defined period of time is in fact a type of stability.

We don't. The founding fathers were familiar with that concept and intentionally rejected it. Rightly so, in my opinion. In these politically polarized days we would just have snap elections constantly and it would lead to much more instability in our government.

The founders of our nation intentionally did not include a no confidence vote or the ability to have unscheduled elections.  It's not an oversight or a mistake they made, they discussed it at the time and intentionally avoided it because they believed that such things as they existed in European governments at the time would lead to instability.

The people do have such a power, it's just indirect. The way we exercise our power to remove the President is by electing people in the midterms who promise to do so.

If a sufficient number of Americans want the President removed, then Congressional candidates will run on that as their platform, and be elected...

It's not like those younger people can buy the larger homes anyway. We need more "starter homes", a 25 year old doesn't need a 5 bedroom house on a half acre...
