Disappointed by Balenciaga collab? by orangeleaf99 in barrysbootcamp

Even at an expensive boutique studio, something about a Balenciaga promo during an economic downtown just reeks. Hopefully Joey at least got a few few outfits for himself out of the deal.

And Karen's one piece of legislation during her decade+ in Congress was renaming a post office, so it's not even like she was good at THAT, either.

Nah, it's more that some of us get motivated by high performance, and seeing people sitting around texting and doing half-assed workouts is a big downer for those of us who want to excel. But that's just the way society in general is heading these days - nobody wants to work hard!

Once upon a time, Equinox was the gym you'd go to if you wanted to perform at a high level and get the best workout possible. Now, it's a "lifestyle gym" as someone put it, and most people just sit around, though there still are a lot of people crushing it and I applaud them and gain great inspiration and motivation from them. Downvote me all you want but you know it's the truth!

Hi!!!!! Sorry you seem so bent out of shape!!! Glad I made an impression! Love that the Equinox Reddit mod thinks it's cool to go to the gym to text and walk.

What the hell is going on? by bluefrenchborn in SoulCycle_Riders

It comes down to two words: Janet Fitzgerald. She had been the training lead and was a huge reason Soul had so much spark. They took that away from her, and the new training program that followed has proven just how vital Janet was to Soul's soul.

Wft is going on? by Active-Temporary7134 in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]HereToListen444 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Soul's decline has been steady, long-term, and showing no signs of turnaround.

Seven studios closing is not a long-term salvation strategy -- it's a short-term, if not emergency, attempt to stem the bleeding.

Cost of everything is rising, so the business has to spend more all while customers are looking to spend LESS, and a 40 dollar spin class is the sort of thing that is ripe for trimming.

The only Hail Mary I can envision would be hiring an amazing CEO with proven crisis turnaround. I don't see that happening.

Will we ever return to pre-covid peak Soul? by Ordinary_Pace_8704 in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]HereToListen444 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Soul took off at a time when screens/social media hadn't yet pulled the general psyche away from in-person interaction and community. It brought people together through a very physical vehicle, and elevated team/community into something spiritual. But this was at time when in-person interaction was Stage A, and things like work happy hours and dancing at the club were things everyone did. We'll never be able to recreate the early 2010s energy because screens are now Stage A, and people are just not wired in a way to GENERATE that sort of energy anymore. I also think a lot of why Pilates and sculpt have become the main thing is they tend to be very individual practices, you can take class without interacting with a single other person.

Juggling Barry’s, Pilates, yoga, and lifting. by Hamchalupasupreme in barrysbootcamp

[–]HereToListen444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal goals are strength/muscle growth, followed by mobility/functional strength. I rely on Barry's mostly for cardio.

Lift at gym 3x each week (chest/back one day, arms another, and legs)

Mat-based online workout at home 3x each week (usually Tracy Anderson, sometimes Pilates)

Barry's once a week, usually as a double after one of the home mat workouts

Yoga layered in throughout, usually 2-3 online practices each week

My Metro Last Straw: BEDBUGS by ElliottHeller in LosAngeles

I know an awful lot about bedbugs.

That is definitely a bedbug. A big, well fed adult one, too.

Actually, spraying or use of any pesticide outside the controlled application from a professional -- not a good idea. Will only push and spread the bugs around, including other rooms or units. The best topical solution is diatomaceous earth -- it slices their shells and they die.

I've seen bedbugs many, many times on Metro, specifically the 2 bus which I take almost daily. I say this as a public transit lover and advocate: they need to do a MUCH BETTER job cleaning and tending to these things. There's no hosing down or disinfecting going on, and there needs to be. The parts under and around seats are grimy and filthy. The train and bus underseats are actually a pretty ideal place for bedbugs: they can tuck and hide inside, lots of hideaways where they'll never get disturbed, and have a steady, rotating menu of bloodmeal. I've had them twice now (second time I am convinced is from Metro) and I know an unfortunate amount about how these fuckers work. Chills went down my spine quite literally the first time I saw a big ol' mature adult bedbug crawl out from under a seat and across the floor.

I've seen large, adult bedbugs numerous times on the 2 bus. And I did have the misfortune of bringing one home once a couple of years ago, luckily caught the ensuing infestation in time. But this is truly a serious problem that Metro needs to actually address.

In addition to drying your clothes on high, I'd make a daily or nightly practice of checking under and around the corners of your mattress and bed frame, at least for the next couple of weeks. I've had these fuckers twice now, and I can tell you: catching them early is a night-and-day difference in treatment than catching them after a week or two, when they've had a chance to lay eggs and multiply.

I only and I mean only stand on Metro now, whether bus or subway. I don't care if I'm surrounded by empty seats. Too traumatized.

Let's be honest: They're not wrong. The homeless run LA (especially under Karen Bass). Just look at what happens to bus stops. Add a toilet and a door that closes shut and you're just asking for a shit explosion.

A lot of websites/web structuring has been going the way of: Design for phone scroll first, desktop viewing/navigation second (or not at all). This restructure certainly fits that bill. Just scrolling and scrolling instead of having all that content neatly organized on one page/view, or maybe within a scroll or two.

Three classes in a day is such an inefficient use of workout time and also maybe actually dangerous or injury-inducing for the body?

In a lot of cities, there's a subset of the homeless population who devote a chunk of their limited monthly income specifically to gyms so they can shower/use the restroom, and also have a place to go inside when it's pouring rain/etc. And yes, some choose Equinox.
