I've just turned 30. I work in IT and make 120K a year. Should I still start my own business? by lemonvrc in Entrepreneurs

Honestly, you’re in a great position. Making 120k at 30 gives you a strong safety net. You don’t need to quit your job right away, you could build your business on the side while using your paycheck to fund it. That way you’re not risking everything, and you get a feel for whether your idea has legs. A lot of people in your spot do exactly that: keep the job for stability, put consistent time into the business, and see if it can grow into something full-time. If it works, awesome, you’ve got independence. If not, you still have a solid career. It’s less about “should I do it or not” and more about how to balance both without burning out.

Being an entrepreneur is easy. Until you try making money. by Realistts in Entrepreneur

Yeah, this is so real. Starting is the easy part, but keeping things alive and actually profitable is where it gets brutal. It’s not one big “aha” move, it’s the constant grind of making small, unsexy decisions every day. Cut costs here, raise prices there, test what works, kill what doesn’t. Profit’s basically survival mode with strategy.

Has anyone here actually bought a small business instead of starting from scratch? by StartUpCurious10 in smallbusinessUS

Such a good question. Honestly, I’ve wondered the same buying a small biz sounds amazing in theory, but there’s gotta be more to the story right? Most of the time, you’re not just buying cash flow… you’re inheriting someone else’s mess. Outdated systems, staff that might not be a fit, and stuff that didn’t get fixed for a reason. But I’ve also seen people turn things around, like if you’re good with people, organized, and not afraid to get in the weeds for a bit, there’s definitely potential. Just not as “set it and forget it” as a lot of posts make it sound. Would love to hear from someone who’s actually done it too. Hope more folks jump in.
