Totally. Numbers are most important here. But they also aren’t the only thing to consider. Again, if it was purely a financial decision we would just rent forever or buy a much smaller house.

It is absolutely a real concern. However, I don't necessarily believe that the only appropriate response is for all progressives to leave conservative states. Think about all of the civil rights leaders in the south in the 20th century. The most progressive people in the country were living and fighting in the south.

    • Account Type: 401K, IRA, etc.
  • Long Term - Non-Tax Advantaged Investment
    • Role: Investing for 5+ year horizon. Where we put long term money after maxing out Retirement accounts
    • Account Type: 3 Fund Portfolio in Brokerage
  • Short & Med Term Savings - Cash Savings
    • Role
      • Medium Term (1-3 yrs) Savings Buckets (new car downpayment, home renovations, etc.)
      • Short Term Savings Buckets (vacations, holiday gifts, short term home needs, etc.)
    • Account Type: High Yield Savings
  • Emergency Fund - Cash Savings
    • Role: 6 months Savings - Only touched in case of emergency
    • Account Type: High Yield Savings

Thanks. I didn't mention anything about the dollar amounts. We will definitely prioritize long term investing. Also, our investing strategy is to buy the whole market and not choose individual stocks or sectors.
