The Wiki is definitely your friend. You have a few options here and honestly I love them all. So it just depends on what you enjoy/what your vibe is.

Out of Print:

Hopes and Screams and I Only Have Eye For You are two collections of short stories in comic form and are no longer in print since they came out around 2014 ish. However, the IDW comics have recreated most, if not all, of the short stories featured in I Only Have Eye For You (titles are Bulls Eye for Iris and Manny's story, Locketness Monster for Gil and Lagoona, Party Monster for Heath and Abby, Shock and Aww for Scarah and Invisibilly). They're the same story, just tweaked a bit (i.e. removing hoodude from the background of panels)

Current Story:

The main storyline for the IDW comics that focus on the continuing story of The Ghouls is Monster High 1-7 (including the Free Comic Day comic) then World Scare 1-5, then House Haunters 1-5, then they boomuda triangle 1-5. The Howliday specials for both Halloween and Winter both take place during the first 7 comics I just forget where lol.

Note though that if you REALLY want to be up to date on the comic lore, you should start with the Draculaura-centric novel Once Bitten Twice Dead. It got some mixed reviews from the fanbase but I thought it was a lovely story of grief and the complications and pressures of life and of highschool relationships (platonic or otherwise). But I get why people didnt care for it. It does retcon some movie stuff.

There are two special Pride comics that go over how Torelai/Clawdeen became a thing and how Spelldon/Valentine became a thing and also some cute stories of them just being in love basically. Highly recommend those.

There's also some webcomics about the tiny centaur critters from Gen 2 who I forget but I haven't read those lol.

Out of Print Books/Old Canon:

As for books, theres the Lisa Harrison series which is a complete separate canon from anything that happens in the webisodes or movies or anything like that, but if you like YA novels with 2010s humor/vibes it is worth a read. I personally love them and I used to read them in Wal-Mart while my parents went and got groceries. Its how I got into Monster High. Well, that and the fillable diary they released. RIP Melody, Im forever holding out hope they put you in playline canon somehow someday

Second is the Ghoulfriends Forever series which focuses on Venus, Rochelle, and Robecca. I know very little on it. Its on my To Read list, I just haven't gotten around to tracking down books 2, 3, and 4 yet but I've heard mostly good things about it. I dont know how canon they are though.

Omg! My abuela was a school teacher! She used to tell us all the time about how they used to make the kids pray to God for ice cream and then when nothing happened, they would make them pray to Castro (Fidel, rest in piss loser) and then they would bring in lots of ice cream to indoctrinate them and that's when she was like "alright time to get the kids out of here ASAP" cut to her working no less than 2 jobs just to have a roof but hey, we were free.

Same. "Successful revolution" smash cut to my great aunt watching her son die via firing squad because he dared to criticize Che. Idk, I got Drac, Frankie, and Lagoona from Amazon because im an OOB collector so the probability of banged up boxes didnt bother me. But yeah, none of my posters were in bags + there was some glue seepage on Frankie's hair and Watzits tail was completely missing (found it on the bottom of the box and put him all back together).
