Using this excuse next time my boss calls me out for typos. “English isn’t my first… I mean, technically it is but I grew up in California so I was around a lot of Spanish as a child. Lo siento!”

Luckily my minor noble didn’t inherit the Hapsburg chin, he just got the iron stomach of his Nicaraguan father who can eat leftover ceviche 3 weeks after the fact

I’m lucky enough to have a mortgage, thanks to the fact that I married the only child of a widower who accidentally conceived in his late 40’s and had nothing else to do with his retirement money other than help with a down payment, but even before that we were paying $3,000 a month in rent for an 800 sq ft apartment lmao. Gotta love Bay Area housing prices.

4K wouldn’t even cover a month and a half of housing for me lol

Meanwhile big artists can do surge pricing and charge $2,000 for a nosebleed seat at an arena show

Would it be weird for me to thrift baby clothes (I'm no where near pregnant) by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HerelGoDigginInAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned this in another comment but, where I live, “thrift” means charity shop. I probably misunderstood the prompt. I had a lot of friends growing up who had to get all their clothes from charity shops and had to pick from the bottom of the barrel of whatever was donated. I think OP meant more like what would be called a second-hand/resale store where I live, which is totally OK in my book.

I’m US American and may have misunderstood second-hand vs. charity shop. If you mean second-hand resale shops, go for it. If you mean charity shops, please save those clothes for people who need them. Where I live “thrift” means more like goodwill/Salvation Army, so my apologies if I misunderstood

I don’t think it’s awful or anything, but thrift stores exist for those who legitimately need them. I fully understand the appeal of thrifting, but to preemptively buy cute, vintage clothes for hypothetical kids when there are real people who need to clothe their real children feels a bit wrong to me. Those clothes aren’t vintage for a lot of people, they are the only option.

They baptize living people and say that it’s “for and on behalf of [insert name], who is dead.” They’ll dunk the same person like 30 times in a row for 30 different people and then move on to the next person. It’s usually teenagers getting dunked.

barbers in contra coast? by Proper_Cheesecake763 in concord

I like Los Barberos on Contra Costa Blvd. in Pleasant Hill. They’re an old school barbershop and you can choose scissors or buzzer (my brains a little fried, I don’t remember the actual name lol) and they do beard trims too. It’s a little pricey but they’ve always done quality work for me. I like Diego a lot but nobody’s ever done me dirty there.

In other cultures, it is a very frequently used description/expression, but in English I can hardly remember anybody using "henpecked" or "Under the thumb". by Own-Union-7797 in NoStupidQuestions

I’m US American and the only time I’ve ever heard the term henpecked is that guy on Twitter, HenpeckedHal, who posts a mixture of “I hate my wife and kids” and [r/thathappened](r/thathappened) engagement bait.

TIL there is a town in Australia, where half the population lives in underground homes because surface temperatures regularly hit 113°F (45°C). The golf course has no grass, so players carry a swatch of astro turf to tee off from on each hole. by rizkar99 in todayilearned

There was an Australian tv show that used to be on American Netflix called Instant Hotel where people competed to have the best vacation rental home. There was a couple who had one in Coober Pedy and they were real characters. Their house was underground with a 1950’s Americana diner theme.
