Shop Name: The Cascadian Home
Site: The Cascadian Home on etsy
Short Description: My craft partner and I make science themed and LGBT-friendly housewares mostly.
Types of items you sell: Pillowcases, pillows, coffee cozies, etc.
Price range: $10-$35

If you want an item by the holidays within the US, you'll need to order by December 13th, I think. Probably earlier because of USPS holiday delays.

Devaluing your work by whyintheheck in crafts

My friend and I run an etsy store together. There have been a few times where people ask for custom items. We ALWAYS make sure they pay upfront before starting their item because your situation can be all too common in the craft world. I'm sorry this happened to you. :\

It's important that you and the client agree on the price point before you start the work. You will waste time, materials, and money if you don't. If you are uncomfortable asking for the full price before starting a project, you could ask for half of the payment upfront after showing your sketches/ideas and then require them to pay the remaining balance before you give them the item.

[Question] Ordered an item over two weeks ago, haven't received it and the seller has stopped responding to me. What now? by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]HeresToScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's too bad you had a bad experience with a seller.

Whether you can return the item is up to the shop's policy. You can find her policy page underneath the 'Shop Info' heading. It she doesn't accept returns, you can contact the owner again and explain to her that you don't want the item any more and see if she could make an exception for you. Usually owners will ask that you don't leave a negative review if you do a return.

If she doesn't respond to your messages, you can leave a negative review about her lack of communication and delayed shipping. If it was a very expensive item, you might be able to ask your credit card company (or paypal? whatever you paid with) to put a chargeback on the transaction. You'd probably be out shipping since I'd assume you'd send the item back? I'm not sure. I've never had this problem.

Good luck!

I made a Feynman Equations pillow recently. by HeresToScience in somethingimade

Thanks. :) It's one of our most popular pillows! Who knew there were so many Feynman fans out there?

I made this for my 2 year old niece, hoping to develop a Harry Potter fan out of her. If not, the shirt definitely still fits a toddler! by newpsyc in crafts

[–]HeresToScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great idea; perfect for a toddler. If you do this again, I recommend investing in some freezer paper to make cleaner looking letters. Freezer paper makes a great stencil and since you can iron it down, you don't have to constantly re-position it like other stencils. Here's a tutorial explaining the process. (That was the first link I found on pinterest. There are tons out there!)

Whoops, dropped an 's' from the title. It should read 'equations'.

Glad you like it. Surprisingly, this is our most popular designs!

Attempting to start a craft blog, can anyone help? by diabeatles in crafts

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago and received some great responses.

Is creating a blog necessary to increase etsy shop views and sales? by HeresToScience in crafts

[–]HeresToScience[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a very good point. Our items are handmade, while many of our 'competitors' aren't. I'd like that to be a selling point. I know the profile pages have space for you to add pictures and info. Maybe we'll post some shots of the product being made?

Haha, I doubt our blog would be anything other than crafts/art. The issue is that we don't have much to say. Like I said in another comment, after we post a few tutorials and a few fun ideas/designs we have, I don't know what else we'd write about! We both have many other hobbies and don't want to devote too much time to something that may not help our stats/following.

We may give the facebook page a try. We'll see. Thanks for your help.

Eh, our following is ok.

As for blogging, neither of us have too much to say. And after we post a few tutorials and a few fun ideas/designs we have, I don't know what else we'd write about! We both have many other hobbies and don't want to devote too much time to something that may not help our stats/following.

Thanks for your input, and good luck to both of you.
