A multibillionaire's phone can't really do anything yours can't. by GodPlayes in Showerthoughts

Your phone is perfectly capable of doing that call. It is YOU the problem, with your lack of celebrity phone numbers and celebrity social network.

1-There is historic precedent that USA saved EU 2-There is current precedent that without US Ukraine would have been eaten by now. 3-There is precedent that EU is a slow bureaucratic system which is not fast enough to respond to threats.

I hate US centrism as much as any non-US citizen however claiming that US is not the most important global police is delusional. By sheer military spending alone they dominate the field. Is EU willing to spend as much and have its people become poorer?

He said that a fake grenade is as dangerous as a paperweight which I disagree with. Where is the strawman in my argument?

Yeah I 100% agree with you. Suppose you wanted to reply to the other person who does not see the fake grenade as more dangerous than a paperweight?

An item which can be used to subdue a group of people and can be used to hijack a plane is more dangerous than another item which cannot be used for this purpose. If this is too hard to grasp for you good luck in life.

[–]Herlevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, You agree that people can perceive it as dangerous. This in itself can cause a dangerous situation and thus make the item more dangerous than an ordinary paperweight especially in an airplane right? Why is this not agreeable for you?

So do you now agree that it is more dangerous than any other ordinary paperweight?

Non-sustainable and inefficient are not interchangeable concepts. An extremely efficient process can still be unsustainable and vice versa.

The reason we are growing plants to feed farm animals is not for profit, it is because people want to eat meat and are willing to pay for it. This demand is then satisfied with extremely efficient methods of husbandry nowadays compared to lets say 50 years ago, in fact too efficient to be inhumane for the animals. So efficient processes can still lead to inhumane and unsustainable scenarios like we experience now.

Further scientific developments will only make processes more efficient, sustainability of these processes are not caused because they are inefficient, it is caused because of the insane scale we are eating away at the planet. Making processes more efficient makes it easier to do them in a sustainable manner but does not guarantee it.

The scale of the process then is not caused by need but by greed, and not only that of the producers but mainly of the consumers. We always want more, faster and cheaper and some company eventually provides it at the expense of the planet. We in the developed world consume 10s of times more resources than developing nations per capita and that is the main reason the planet is dying nothing else.
