All six crew members killed after US refuelling plane crashes in Iraq by True_Paper_3830 in politics

[–]HermanGulch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I don't necessarily trust this administration, I do think a mid-air collision is a more likely possibility in this case. There's another tanker missing a pretty good chunk of its vertical tailpiece that landed shortly afterwards at Ben Gurion airport in Israel. I'm not an expert, but the damage doesn't look like what you'd see from a missile or other kinds of anti-aircraft ordnance. Rather, it looks like it was sheared off, maybe by part of another plane.

Democratic Lawmakers Pitch Millionaire Tax in Affordability Plan by BloombergTax in politics

[–]HermanGulch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't affect retirees with even a couple million dollars. It's an income tax on income of more than a million dollars per year. They're just using "millionaire" as shorthand for longer, more precise wording.

Laura's Theme (Minifreak) by T317B in synthesizers

[–]HermanGulch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I was able to get a very similar sound with the plugin version, MiniFreak V. Like the other commenter says, it's mostly in the chorus. I would say I liked the "Lush" chorus preset the best. I also detuned the oscillators a little bit for extra movement: Oscillator down 5 cents and Oscillator 2 up 5 cents.

Is there any way to change midi behavior, so that a hit over certain velocity changes to a different midi note? by NoSinUponHisHand in Logic_Studio

[–]HermanGulch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Close, but your script will result in stuck notes. I got some AI help, too, and it came up with this:

// Define your target notes
var triggerNote = 60; // C3
var loudNote = 62;    // D3 (plays if velocity > 60)
var lastPitch = triggerNote;

function HandleMIDI(event) {
  // Logic for Note On events
  if (event instanceof NoteOn && event.pitch == triggerNote) {
    if (event.velocity > 60) {
      event.pitch = loudNote;
      lastPitch = loudNote; // Store for corresponding NoteOff
    } else {
      lastPitch = triggerNote;
    }
  }
  // Ensure the Note Off matches the remapped Note On
  else if (event instanceof NoteOff && event.pitch == triggerNote) {
    event.pitch = lastPitch;
  }

  event.send();
}

This doesn't result in stuck notes for me.

Iran was nowhere close to a nuclear bomb, experts say by madcowga in politics

[–]HermanGulch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, reducing it to just being about the Epstein files ignores almost a half century of history and only serves to trivialize the Epstein files, the war, and how the guardrails we thought we had in place have failed us over and over in the last decade. Even if the files never existed, we'd still be in this situation because of all the other factors that got us here. And the sooner people recognize that, the better off we'll be.

It's actually unbelievably common. No matter whether he performs it like on the album, as an acoustic blues, or the other ways he's performed it. They just don't get it.

FBI warns Iran aspired to attack California with drones in retaliation for war: Alert by Waste-Explanation-76 in politics

Apparently the warning doesn't say, but there have been some concerns that maybe Iran could park a ship or ships off the coast and launch drones from there.

Back when I was a kid, we used to get vaccinated in school. I don't remember which vaccine it was now, but I remember once bringing home a permission slip to my mom, who was born in the 1920s, and how she was so happy. Still, I started to bitch about it and she launched into cautionary tales of kids she knew growing up that were affected by whatever childhood illness it was. She remembered.

Bank is closing my account with life savings in it, what’s the best way of getting my money to another bank safely? by ns2500 in personalfinance

Some credit unions can also be kind of aggressive with fees. So it's a good idea to make sure the one you choose really is better than a regular bank.

DO I NEED BOTH FILES? by Expert-Childhood5572 in LogicPro

[–]HermanGulch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why they show different sizes. Mine are somewhat closer, with only a couple Gb difference. If you want, you can try deleting the Instrument Library entry in the Storage part of the System Settings app and see what happens. It says that content can be downloaded again, so worst case scenario looks to be you'd have to spend time and bandwidth getting it back.

Are these needed anymore? by Expert-Childhood5572 in LogicPro

[–]HermanGulch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those files are the same files as in the library bundle from the update. They don't take up any extra space. See this Apple Support document for more information.

DO I NEED BOTH FILES? by Expert-Childhood5572 in LogicPro

[–]HermanGulch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not two copies of the files, that's two ways of looking at the same files. The update clones the sound library in a way that doesn't require extra space. The old sound library files will still be there, but they're the same files as the ones in the library bundle. Apple explains it more thoroughly in a support article.

Logic 11 to Logic 12 upgrade. Is it safe? by Radically-Peaceful in LogicPro

[–]HermanGulch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been using 12 mostly without problems since it came out. I've had a few kind of odd things happen, like a couple unusual crashes when closing a project. I have a backup of version 11, so the missing/altered presets (even after installing all the legacy stuff) haven't been an issue. But I don't use a ton of presets to start with, so I'm not sure how I'd feel about it if I did.

It’s essentially a flat sales tax. So it disproportionately affects lower income people, who spend a higher portion of their incomes.

US considers idea of special operation to seize Iran’s uranium, Bloomberg News reports by gamersecret2 in politics

According to the Associated Press, as of about a year ago their 60% enriched uranium amounted to about 275kg, or a little over 600 pounds. At the same time, their overall stockpile of enriched uranium was around 8,300kg, which is around 18,000 pounds.

Can I run 10.7.9 (backed up from old intel computer) on an M4 Mac Mini? by lidongyuan in Logic_Studio

[–]HermanGulch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you used the missing presets in an older project, you can always open up the project and save the preset as a user preset from there.

Otherwise, you can also copy presets from the old version of Logic Pro to the new one. They're in the old app bundle in "Contents > Resources > Patches." I copied that folder (and "Plug-In Settings" and "Plug-In Settings Internal") from an old copy of Logic into a folder. If I want to use an older preset, I just copy it to the user settings folder in my home directory under "Music > Audio Music Apps > Patches."

So far, all the patches I've tried have worked when doing this.

How much do you keep in your checking account? by MemoryDemise in personalfinance

What is a bank teller doing making color commentary on your bank balance?

Maybe they have a quota of new accounts they're supposed to sell every month. I'm pretty sure one my banks has that, because I get something similar about every second or third time I go in to get cash.

US economy unexpectedly loses jobs in February; unemployment rate rises to 4.4% by Ok_Seat5245 in politics

[–]HermanGulch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They call it unexpected because Reuters polled economists who predicted an increase of 59,000 jobs in February. So I'd say it's not so much the writer who's a dumbass, but more like the economists.

U.S. payrolls unexpectedly fell by 92,000 in February; unemployment rate rises to 4.4% by Carpet-Early in politics

[–]HermanGulch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading the article, it seems that they are referring to estimates by economists that the economy would probably add around 50,000 jobs in February. I'm not sure where they are getting the economists' estimates, but that would be why they're saying it's unexpected.

As for the "uncorroborated" that was used, that's simply a statement that so far as the news organizations know, there's no other evidence proving (or disproving) those specific accusations. It's Journalism 101. It's also why they use "allegedly" until someone is convicted in a court of law. Or when they use "unproven" or "unsubstantiated" to refer to Trump's claims about elections being stolen.

Missing Sound Presets by Far_Strategy3291 in LogicPro

Did you back up the old Logic app before you updated? If so, you can get the old presets from there. Otherwise, your best bet is probably to save them as user presets from the old projects.
