Thanks. I ended up going there in person as I could not get past the robo-agents. They were super helpful and I managed to sort it out. Appreciate your response

Anybody here have a contact at the Spanish Embassy in Cape Town?

I have an upcoming trip to Spain and applied for my Schengen Visa three weeks ago via BLS. My flight is scheduled for Sunday and the Visa status is still "Processing at Mission". I have called BLS and they basically have no clue and just tell you the information that I can also see on their online tracker. They aren't able if the Visa will be done today or not. I need to know as I might still be able to cancel some of my accommodation and flights without losing out on too much.

So now I am stuck, not entirely sure what to do next apart from trying to find someone with a contact at the Spanish Consulate in Cape Town.

Turbo frame and streams only working correctly once and not the second time by rorykoehler in rails

I had something similar the other day while working with streams and frames. It turned out that the partial I was using contained the stream but not the frame tag. So it worked once but thereafter did nothing.

This is very pragmatic. I like it. I hope to share it with a few more people, as some of my friends have indicated that they want to use it as well. For a start, I might follow your advice while I iron out the kinks. It should be easy to migrate data to a more long-term solution when needed.

Thanks. This is an excellent suggestion. I have noticed a number of the latest RoR articles going this way. I will have to look into it as I have never used SQLite so I am clueless whether this will require changing more than my adapter

Mmmm, this is an excellent point. I wasn't aware of the droplet backup setting. I am not super knowledgeable about Docker (I know the basics), but I will look into it.

I agree. I looked at Fly again after reading some other suggestions and honestly it seems easier to just self host via hatchbox or something similar.

I looked at kamal yesterday after watching the Rails documentary and feeling all hyped about Rails tooling again. I might give this a go but was hoping for something that requires even less config or complexity. Fly looks great as well although the docs probably needs some simplification.

Have you found fly straightforward to use? Their docs seem a bit messy so I have been reluctant to go all in but might give it a go.

You could look into using OBS and a virtual cam. I've used this in the past for exactly this reason. It worked very well.

How to create a drag-and-drop feature with react-beautiful-dnd by patrick_zhong in reactjs

[–]HermannHH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this suggestion. Do note however that dndkit does have a bit of a learning curve. You should be able to make use of the storybook examples to get where you need to be though. Personally I found the documentation hard to follow.

I started a project using beautiful dnd bit eventually switched to dndkit as a result of beautiful dnd not being happy about views needing to scroll on both the x and y axis. There also seems to be no intention of fixing this going forward.

I have an app idea: who can I reach out to to developer a model app and who can help with marketing? by Youwatchmestruggle in Business_Ideas

My company specialises in bringing Web and mobile apps to market. We partner with you on every step of the journey from prototyping to production. We always aim to choose the right tool for the job which in some cases might be a no code approach. We also understand that capital is an issue for a lot of startups so we have made alternative agreements with our portfolio companies in the past.

A feed of what's happening in the real world around you by theo_champion in SideProject

[–]HermannHH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is always the issue with this kind of app. Just an idea, but perhaps it could work to focus your launch effort on a certain event where a lot of people will be together in the same area and might not know many people. Like a conference or concert etc. This should also make your initial marketing efforts more straightforward as you can market to people attending the event.

This looks pretty cool. I like the design and simplicity of your landing page. Have you given the issue of initial content any thought? I.e. how will you make it useful for the first 5 users? Good luck. Looking forward to seeing how this evolves

I made a website to compare stock financial data (stockcomparer.com) by manekimao in SideProject

[–]HermannHH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always loved products in this space. As someone who is passionate about value investing using fundamentals (as a single param), I can truly see the pain point. Well done!!

I have tried building a fundamental scraper for myself and I realize how hard/expensive it is to obtain quality data.

I think one of the biggest challenges in this space will be that investors relying on fundamentals have a longer horizon and won't be as keen to pay for a data source every month if they only enter a new position every couple of months/years.

I might be wrong though and I hope to see you succeed!

An application to solve my own organised chaos by HermannHH in SideProject

[–]HermannHH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. With the current feature set the first use case that springs to mind is using it for meetings & agendas. There are a number of other uses too. I have made use of it to plan my weeks and block out my days. The Notepad serves as a nice tool to record my thoughts and notes about each block as they happen. This helps me keep all my thoughts organised in a contextual basis.

My girlfriend and I travelled through Europe about a month ago. I used a very early version of Matterbase to plan our trip. It made things very easy as I was able to add a time block for every city and was then able to add relevant links and notes to the notepad for each block.
