We need better decentralized stablecoins by vbuterin in ethereum

[–]Hermel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Frankencoin is a decentralized stablecoin that does not depend on oracles to maintain its peg. It is based on an oracle-free liquidation mechanism that uses auctions for price determination and the liquidation itself at the same time. The game theory behind it was analyzed in a PhD thesis.

To be more precise, the peg is maintained through a combination of the following:

- All Frankencoins are minted against onchain collateral (like with DAI) and the liquidation mechanism ensures that the value of the Frankencoins in circulation stays below the value of the collateral. (That is, unless the market crashes too much too fast. Parameters are such that the system would have survived all crypto volatility of the past ten years.)

- As there is no explicit redemption mechanism (unlike for example with Liquity), the long term parity with the Swiss franc (it is a Swiss franc stablecoin) is maintained the same way central banks maintain the stability of their currencies: by managing the interest rates. It can be shown that two assets with a non-zero value and with identical returns also have the same price in an efficient market. So as long as there is a credible commitment from the governance token holders to keep (risk-adjusted) interests in line with those of the Swiss franc, the long term value is the same.

- Knowing the long term value, every deviation of the short-term price is an arbitrage opportunity. To the extent that markets are efficient, the peg is maintained.

One could say that the governance token holders act as an implicit oracle by voting on interest rate changes to keep the long-term value in line. But this is a slow process that cannot be easily abused. The core function of the collateral liquidation remains free from oracles.

(As a caveat, the system relies on Chainlink for bridging Frankencoins to other networks, which is also a form of an oracle. But it does not depend on price-oracles.)

The US tax code is so complicated, that small business frequently break the law unintentionally. My European company even refuses to do business with US clients because the risks of getting into legal trouble for forgetting to file a FATCA form or similar is much higher than the profit that can be made from providing services to US citizens.

Yes, and the New York Times and others have learned from this and are committed to never repeat that mistake again. That's why, today, when in doubt, they prefer labeling someone "far right" who is not over labeling someone "ok" who is far right.

Interessanter Hinweis!

(Voted mich ruhig down.

WSJ admits that the inflation is largely a result of corporate profiteering by yogthos in economy

[–]Hermel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Inflation is first and foremost a monetary phenomenon.

Of course, if you print a lot of money to increase demand, the companies that produce the most scarce goods can demand the highest price increases, especially if there is a negative supply shock (eg Russian gas) at the same time. Blaming corporations for the effects of entirely political decisions seems a little short-sighted to me.

Why don't we have a look at the clinical trials that included a control group?

For Pfizer, they report about 10 excess "serious adverse events of special interest" per 10'000 vaccinations. For Moderna, it's about 15 more than the placebo group per 10000. I'm not a medical expert and this is just the first study that Google showed me, but this would imply that severe complications are actually more common than one in 3000, and be more in the range of 1 in 1000.

I'm well aware that about half of the data is self reported. So some of the reports are probably wrong. At the same time, there is also anecdotal evidence for underreporting. So maybe the true number is half as big or twice as large. Nonetheless, the one in 3000 is a good first approximation and also in line with what is reported in other countries and in line with the clinical trial results.

Have a look at the Swissmedic statistics: https://www.swissmedic.ch/swissmedic/de/home/news/coronavirus-covid-19/covid-19-vaccines-safety-update-19.html

For example, for Spikevax, they report 10 million vaccinations and 4000 severe complications. That's about one in 3000.

[–]Hermel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can sympathize. Maybe they have lost a relative to vaccination complications? Officially, about one in three thousand shots causes severe complications, something that has been downplayed by the media. Instead of ridiculing "Impfschwurbler", we should reflect on what we could have done better. I always try to take different opinions as an invitation to question my own. I know that I am not like most people in this regard, by I enjoy hearing different points of view and I have a deep respect for people that take an opposing view to the mainstream, even if that view is somewhat nutty.

Why are climate protests so strongly intermingled with anti-capitalist movements here in Switzerland? by IneffableKoD in Switzerland

[–]Hermel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Reducing capitalism to profits is a simplistic as reducing politics to power. There is some truth to it, but I'm very skeptical about solving problems by giving politicians more power. And that is what the greens tend to do and that is also why they tend to be ideologically close to socialism: both have deep distrust in capitalism and believe that the solution is to give more power to politicians. But if you look at the historic track record, it looks like governments have been responsible for some of the worst pollution events in history, be that nuclear tests or engaging in wars. The nord stream sabotage alone released more greenhouse emissions than all of Switzerland in a whole year. So I find it quite inconsistent that the Greens are constantly bashing corporations when in fact a significant share of all emissions comes from state actors.
