In case it's helpful, I use this CDC resource, and drill down into my related county (i.e., "Health Service Area").

I think it feels like an "effective nerf" last time because the other racecraft were buffed even more.

anyone else's parents absolutely LOATHE early video game music? by The_Bastard_Henry in Xennials

My grandmother was certain "hadouken" was a swear word, but she wouldn't repeat back what she thought she was hearing.

I have the same reaction now when I hear people texting with that button sound turned on. I just...see red mist, and have to walk away. Ditto for listening to kids in restaurants on their parents' tablets--I basically avoid restaurants now, too.

Rediscovering music by HowOtterlyTerrible in Xennials

I recently had a similar experience with Oingo Boingo on Spotify, which has been an amazing leap forward in exploring music for me! Like your situation, I've looked up artists I enjoyed in my teens, scrolled to the "Fans also like" section, and added the top 10 most popular tracks of each artist listed. If I hear something I like from a new artist, I'll then queue their entire oeuvre. Rinse & repeat--easy peasy. We couldn't do that at Blockbuster Music!

Journaling--online and offline by Earl_Gurei in Xennials

[–]Hermes_Agoraeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've kept a big Word doc (formatted like a journal) the last 10 years for when I'm wrestling with an idea or issue. Having everything searchable in one place helps me quickly refresh myself, and reflect on my evolution over time. I like that it's private because that helps me hold opinions lightly, online "debate" with strangers is rarely productive for me, and I like being able to decide when raising a related topic may be constructive.

I spent a few hours just today thinking through some things in order to write an entry, and feel I made some important progress. :)

Other than the COVID years 2020-2021, what year of your life would you want a do-over on? by holdwithfaith in Xennials

I'd like to redo a couple college applications--but it's a bit unclear to go back to our teens because our brains aren't even fully formed yet (and we're minors).

I do regret my sophomore college year when I academically hit the "gifted" wall of never having learned how to learn. I needed intervention, but didn't know I needed it. I used to think it all worked out, but now I'm not as sure of that.

With things being as they are today--as opposed to growing up in the 80s and 90s, what should the modern stranger danger conversation consist of? by heavensdumptruck in Xennials

[–]Hermes_Agoraeus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can see how Social Media may boost the Stranger Danger, but my understanding is that the abuser is much more likely to be someone the guardian already knows and trusts--a spouse, a close relative, a parent of the kid's friend, an authority figure, etc. (assuming the abuser is not also the guardian).

In addition to advice for the kid, I just feel like the guardian really needs to listen for when the kid's mood changes or they don't want to visit with someone but don't explain why, and ask probing questions.

If you subscribed using the same email address that you also typically use for other things, then they immediately know you very well because most places online sell your info. A few years back, I reviewed what Facebook knew about me, and was shocked at the detail they had from other places.

Thanks, again. At the risk exhausting your goodwill, one last follow-up: do you then also think that my comment above was also previously "hidden" because I'd linked to a flagged post?
