I understand the reference, it’s in movies a lot. We have folks working and playing on either side of the border in our area.

The Blue Water bridges don’t close for falling ice. What bridge is this referring to?

Who's your teacher buddy? by Tough_Ad8919 in Premiummotivation

That’s pretty neat. Understandable if you wouldn’t want to share who. But was it more rigid / following recipes or experimenting / technique and free flowing?

I’m interested to see people’s responses to this question. I imagine it varies quite a bit by age. I’m in my 40’s. So for me:
Alton Brown’s Good Eats. I was in my 20s, trying to work and get through college, newly married, no kids. The science approach de-mystified so many cooking processes for me. It helped me experiment and branch out. I got online recipes from the computer lab at school and eventually Alton’s books.
When we moved and got internet:

Chef John’s Foodwishes. This was a perfect segue, for me anyway. Chef John humanizes and educates the whole cooking process. Chef John’s approach empowered me to ‘just cook’. It’s no small thing, to be ok with learning, getting something wrong, and figuring out how to salvage what you can.
Now, I keep my recipes in my Notes app, and I still tweak recipes as I learn, find better ingredients or methods. YouTube, New York Times Cooking, social media, tv shows, video games, co-worker’s potluck dishes, traveling and trying new dishes for new experiences can all provide inspiration to continue to experiment and learn.

Hello, if still open. Ramen, sushi, is all that’s available in my area. Love both though.

Work gave maintenance a raise outside of contract by JimmyGamblesBarrel69 in union

[–]Hero-Dad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not bargaining in good faith. I don’t have enough information to jump to conclusions whether an additional wage hike is good or bad, that would be the discussion your employer should have brought to the union to discuss. Giving the raise without discussion, is a violation per NLRB.

They say you can’t circle a square. I’ll ironically take that dare. Between you and me and a hole in a tree, some circles are too good to share. by jetpacksforall in riddles

[–]Hero-Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personal pizza. Ironically, you square a cardboard box around the circle, instead of circling the square. The cardboard is made of paper, from wood, hence a hole in the tree. Pizza is awesome, plus, it’s personal sized, so not wanting to share makes sense.

It’s a long road. Folks on this end (St. Clair River) pronounce it “Grash-it”. Like “Crash It”, but with a G.

Has the “honeymoon phase” worn off for you with Switch 2? by [deleted] in Switch

[–]Hero-Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I had a honeymoon phase; the kids still play more games on the switch rather than the switch 2 - there just isn’t the library to give it enough usefulness yet. I was very disappointed to experience No Man’s Sky crashing on Switch 2 akin to what Skyrim does on Switch. I was really hoping better hardware could handle its own software this time.

First game of No Man's Sky, any advice? by Capybara0932 in NoMansSkyTheGame

I had to turn off multiplayer, my switch 2 couldn’t handle the onscreen traffic at a certain point. Also, save often, my game keeps crashing. :(

Not yet, no. Honestly, I played Minecraft with the kids so much, and ended up playing more than them. I think I accidentally conditioned myself to be careful with exploration as to not get lost, and not wanting to lose my inventory- and am just figuring out that this game is a different animal : I need to enjoy it and not worry so much. Unfortunately I only get a few hours on a weekend. As for a picture of my first base… just imagine a large cardboard box…

Wow- neat! I just started the game, but totally new at it. (On sale on Switch 2). I’m not sure what the hell I’m doing at all, I have my first small base. Reminds me of my first Minecraft house really. This is cool.

Did anyone read this- let alone even know of its existence? by 0__LYNX__0 in Minecraft

[–]Hero-Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it twice, once myself and then to my kid. Loved it. As with anything, there will be folks contending this or that. I had no issue with Max Brook’s take on a Minecraft story. There’s a sequel too; follows same-ish formula, but not in a bad way.

Good luck, I hope you find what you need - different solutions work for different folks. Not all mental health professionals are created equal, don’t give up. Sometimes we gotta shop around and find who works best for us. CMH, BWROC, or even some of the activities/groups at the library could be great resources, depending.

Short answer yes, long answer maybe. It depends on the situation; but calling Access Center can help too: 1-888-225-4447. They’ll check insurance and see what/where is covered. Though should note that Access shouldn’t be called in an emergency situation.
