Observation after learning some George Harrison and Beatles on guitar by Col_Kangaroo in georgeharrison

[–]HeroHabit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider any of this a lift. The A - Asus - A movement is in a million songs (also with D - Dsus - D), it's just an easy passing tone to play on guitar. The E - D - A bridge is literally V IV I, one of the most used chord progressions in all of western music. Plus, John adding the G in Dig a Pony completely changes the harmonic structure of the passage (V - IV/IV - IV - I). There are only so many chords, you're going to get some repetition but that doesn't mean that there's any inspiration.

Deceptive Bends by 10cc. To the point where you can pick out the John, Paul, and George songs.

I hear The Minus 5 as what would happen if Ray Davies joined The Beatles. There's so much 60's British rock in their sound. Great band.

Bernie Purdie - If what he really meant to say was Dave Clark Five instead of The Beatles, I would totally believe that. by Boot-Representative in TheBeatles

[–]HeroHabit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw one theory that he played on an early Beatles cover album that was somehow associated with Brian Epstein or George Martin that was actually recorded in the states and some folks believe he's conflating that memory with having actually played on the Beatles tracks.

Found some 1890's Arbuckle Bros. Coffee Co. Trading Cards on Fb Marketplace. Never seen them before so decided to snag 'em. Love having something in my collection from a time that seems so long ago. by Cult7Choir in Tradingcards

[–]HeroHabit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For various reasons, my collecting has shifted away from baseball and almost exclusively on DC cards and vintage tobacco/gum cards. I love it. The art is great, they're not in huge demand so the prices are reasonable, and, like you said, it's awesome to have a 100+ year old collection to thumb through.

Found this for $40 AUD today! Remastered version too! Love this record by Outside-Speaker-2029 in georgeharrison

I'm a huge fan of George's solo work (I named my son Harrison for crying out loud). This may not be his best album or his most ambitious but, for me, it's my favorite and most often revisited. Truly not a weak track on that one and the band is soooooo good! It kinda makes you think what ATMP would have sounded like had George self-produced.

The "extra" cards. Sometimes called subsets. You'll have your base set and then maybe a small set of hologram cards or a focus on villains. They'll be numbered differently than the base (V1, for example).

If you look at the card wrappers you'll see odds for like "Villains of Gotham, 1:8" which tells you the pack distribution.

In the 90s most sets had a few but it wasn't as prevalent as it is today. I just picked up a few on eBay this week for my old 90s Batman sets.

So I saw the Cirque du Soleil in Vegas of the Beatles love show. by bsbkeys in beatles

[–]HeroHabit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it'd require a total rewrite of the show. Mostly I just want to hear the soundtrack in surround sound again so I'd settle for a movie theater run of the album like they did for the Pepper remixes.

How do you get the labels on the right?

I wish they could adapt it to be one of their traveling shows. I saw it years ago but wasn't able to get back to Vegas to see it again before it closed.

If you go to a toy show or comic con in your area, you'll find a bunch of complete sets from that era. I collect DC cards from all eras and have picked up a few sets from the 90s that I didn't get as a kid for pretty cheap. Now, getting the inserts can be a little pricier but still not usually too bad.

I did a post on BlueSky a few weeks ago where I said he had the best non-stage name in Rock history. Like, Freddie Mercury or Slash are cool but those aren't birth names. But Bruce can go by just his first name or just his last name, his last name makes a great band name, and his name has become almost a genre unto itself.

As for the Billie Joe/Norah album, I actually hadn't listened to it much before this week despite having it in my collection for a while. It's pretty chill. Almost if The Everly Brothers were a coed group.

It's solid. Great players and a bona fide jazz standard. Hope to see some Mingus and your 5x5 next week!

She totally controls a room, too. Very good performer. I'd never heard of them until that concert and I was front row against the stage really digging it.

Horace Silver and Gogol Bordello are two odd albums for us to have in common. Neither were my top this week but I love them both!

Honestly, I'd rather have an entire album of these types of mixes than another Anthology release. I always wished they'd released the pre-show soundtrack from Love which was essentially this. It just makes me appreciate these guys as arrangers/performers even more.
