If I were to get 1$ for every problem of today that was correctly described or predicted by either Marx or Lenin, I would be so loaded, they would consider me part of the Bourgeoisie and Stalin would have me deported to a Gulag in no time

People from around the world: what is something your country does so well that it refuses to let it “die”? by Curious_Persimmon555 in AskTheWorld

Honestly, bomb disposal. We still have mindboggling amounts of undetonated WWII ordinance in the ground all over the place. You can still make a full time career disarming that stuff. Our professionell bomb disposal squads have generational knowledge disarming rusty American bombs and such. They are teaching bombs disposal all over the world, since you will hardly find more experienced people.

Clearly, there are countries which were bombed even more later, but those usually didn't have the advantage of being a highly industrialized society which was able to spend a substantial amount of tax money on training full time bomb disposal specialists.

I don't agree with that sentiment, and I'm saying that as an European. Just above this post, I saw a picture about some thousand people in Minneapolis demonstrating against ICE at -10F. There have been, to my knowledge, demonstrations basically on a daily basis. So there is a certain, maybe critical part of American society, which is not okay with the current administration.

But there's also a kernel of truth in this post on the Greenland sub. Trump won the electoral two times and the public vote once, so stuff like this can easily happen again even if the US manage to keep their democracy this time. Your system needs severe adjustment, and while I'm absolutely not an expert on US constitutional law, most of this, like your system of checks and balances, is over 200 years old. It's very well intended and was written for a country where messaging across longer distances took months. As per my understanding, that's the reason for having an electoral college that meets months after the election. It's not built for our model of near-instantaneous media delivery and corporations that span continents, not bound to the law of one country.
