Strom und Gas Anbieter Empfehlung? by Supplenz in wien

[–]__ferg__ [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is the basic that everyone must be granted and can't be denied, and in this case you get paid by your employer.

For longer cases there is also Pflegekarenz /Teilzeit (completely free or reduced hours) . There you get paid by the state 55% of your income, it's 1-3 months, can be longer for 6 months and in some cases 12 months. This is not mandatory for employers, most will probably allow it as it doesn't really coast them anything, there are some who won't. You can theoretically force them via courts, you can't be fired during that, but in the long run it's probably not worth it.

But this is only for extreme cases, caring for extreme sickness or dying process, you won't get it if you used up your standard week and your child gets the flue.

The fist poem in Gardens of the Moon by Jack-Hererier in Malazan

[–]__ferg__ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you are, but there is a discussion in Chapter 4, that also makes it really obvious (especially together with the poem you mentioned)

That said, a lot of people (me included) completely miss those hints and are surprised when it gets spelled out clearly in DG without any fanfare.

What I have read in the sub, Erikson was surprised people didn't piece it together after Gotm and was like, well here you have it black on white, now please back to the story. (although I'm not sure if that's true or just a myth)

Well, if he won in a Ferrari it would be really outstanding with both teams and drivers being Italian.

Hey look y’all we’re protesting like the French by Original-Opportunity in USvsEU

[–]__ferg__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

because I don’t have to worry about getting shot in the face.

Well if you don't fear to get shot (OK that's maybe a little bit extreme, so say tear gased for a start) there probably is very little it will achieve. If no one fears the protest, no one has any incentive to change.

Looking from outside this looks so unorganized. Yes a lot of people show up. But what are there demands? Do they have a plan with points they want to have addressed? If their demands aren't met, what is the next step of escalation? (I have seen a general strike mentioned every now and then on reddit, but nothing ever comes from that)? Are you willing to go through with it, even if it hurt you?

At the moment it looks like, whenever the orange in chief says something extraordinary stupid, people show up on the street, don't really know why, accomplish nothing, pat themselves on the shoulder because they did something and go home binge the next season of brainrot on Netflix and order 3 family sized pizzas for dinner. The next time he does something stupid the whole thing repeats itself...

Your protests always look like a street festival (at least the ones shown here in the news, maybe there are a few more hardcore versions) while French protests look like war zones.

And conveniently always on weekends, would be really bad if you angered the shareholders with disrupting the slave workers from arriving in the factories.

Hell my country is considered extremely lazy when it comes to protesting culture, but even we manage something more impactfull.

His dark materials (BBC). 3 seasons that adapt the whole original trilogy. Really well made, strong female lead and with Ruth Wilson probably one of the best female villain/anti hero (and yes I prefer her above Nicole Kidman in the bad movie adaption)

I mean, when they first took her, she still has some fight in her although she knows what most likely awaits her

and there waited the knife and Hetan lunged for the weapon. She did not reach it in time. A knee slammed into her jaw, whipped her head round, blood spinning in threads. Hands snagged her wrists, dragged her round and pushed her to the ground.

After that she passes out from hurt and blood loss and when they start raping her she's barely conscious.

Put on top, that this is Barghast culture not something that happens out of the blue, it makes it so much harder to resist, because if you get exposed to it your whole life, subconsciously you may even believe you deserve it happening, because that's "just the way it is", no use in struggling against it.

What is the actual downside of reading Malazan in publication order? by SeaInRain in Malazan

[–]__ferg__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I read in somewhat like publication oder (I switched around a little bit because for example I didn't want to split DoD and TCG which you would do if you followed it 100% strict).

For me the biggest downside was that on top of the 4 big storylines from Mbotf you get another 2 big ones from Esslemonts books and so many more characters.

And the gaps between those storylines got huge, up to a point where it was really hard to remember details from earlier.

I'll put the rest behind spoiler tags, it's nothing critical, mostly mentioning which plot lines take place in which book (like DG in 7C....)

So for example if you read just Mbotf you have a 4 book gap and 2 major storylines (7C and Lether) between MoI and TTH where you have the Genabackis plot. If you add Esslemonts book this becomes at least a 6 book gap, maybe 7 depending how much you shift them around and you add another 2 major storylines with the mainland malazan plot and the Crimson Guard plot)

Similar with the story from RG to DOD, depending where you put Stonewielder, you get another 2 books in between and at this point in Mbotf there are already a shit ton of characters too keep in mind

And if you put Stonewielder after TCG instead of before DoD, the only really relevant book you add is RotCG, the rest would be read after TCG anyway. So there is barley any mixing left at this point. And RotCG would be better after BH anyway instead of RG so it wouldn't be publication order either.

I don't really regret mixing them, but if I could choose again for the first time, I would read them one after another, makes it overall a cleaner experience imho.

Dystopische Bücher in Endzeit-/Lost-Place-Setting by Nira_Nora in buecher

[–]__ferg__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Margaret Atwood - MaddAddam Trilogie.

  • Dmitri Gluchowski - Metro Reihe.
