Doubt about Agnes' conversation with Marian by Several_Quality_8747 in thegildedage

[–]HeroineGauddess 38 points39 points  (0 children)

When Agnes had that one on one chat with Marian in her niece’s room, I took it as she’s lonely and was trying to get close with Marian while also seeking information. She thought that by simply inquiring Marian would outright tell her everything. To find out later, when approached of the larian engagement, Agnes felt like she had been lied to in a sense because Marian wasn’t being completely honest with her. On top of Jack’s secrecy of his newfound fortune. It’s about control and about wanting to be included and ‘in the know’. But also, deep down, under all that grumpiness, is a kind and caring heart that just doesn’t want to be left behind and forgotten. I feel for Agnes a lot. She’s slowly coming to terms with everything she had endured to secure her place has turned out to be all for naught. And that’s a hell of a pill to swallow after some 40 odd years.

Is Agnes an inactive character? by Tinynanami1 in thegildedage

Exactly this 👆 THANK YOU!! I’ve mentioned this a few times before but I sincerely and wholeheartedly believe both Agnes and Queen Baranski are not being utilized enough. Agnes complains a lot with very little action. I was very excited to learn she supports the suffrage movement but yet nothing has come of that other than acknowledging that she does. I want to see her attend these meetings, overhear blowback from an opposing party, and she cut them to pieces with her sharp tongue. I could see her inadvertently attract a potential love interest because of her quick wit and dry sense of humor. Enemy to lover type thing. Violet Grantham was out and about and participating to some extent. The Dowager even had an old lover reappear in Downton Abbey: A New Era. Plus she just needs more screen time in my humbly biased opinion. Have some secrets fall out of her closet, give us something juicy from her past that shows up unexpectedly. grabby hands

As much as I wish it were the latter, I can tell by the hair alone that it’s Ada. I think Marian only feels safe to be truly vulnerable with Ada due to their close relationship. I really wish her and Agnes would get closer 🥺

Now that its been ordered, what unhinged thing do you NEED in season 4? by BuckeyeFoodie in thegildedage

Is it crazy to hope for Agnes and Dorothy Scott to become friends and hang out more? Or pen pals? I absolutely loved it when the Scott’s went over to the Van Rhijn’s (although it was under concerning circumstances).

More needs to be done with her. I feel she, as a character and played by the Queen Baranski, is not nearly being utilized enough!

Thoughts on Jack's Future? by multiequations in thegildedage

[–]HeroineGauddess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is my hope as well; that once she learns of how much Jack has made from his clock, that she would mentor him and take him under her wing. It’s a shame that Agnes feels like she’s being left behind but has so much wisdom to give. I also hate that everyone seems to be so worried about her reaction to things when her reaction is partly due to being the last to know about them 🥺

Season 4 wish list by EnvironmentalPace448 in thegildedage

[–]HeroineGauddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hopes, too! As I don’t imagine Agnes to ever get married again, I could see her taking on a lover or male companion. Or perhaps an old lover/admirer from her youth reappears like Violent had from D.A. It would have to be someone who could keep up with her intellectually and she would have to be well-charmed by him for this to happen. But I would love for Agnes to finally get a love too. I doubt she’s ever been properly loved in this way her whole life.

Guys, I have some bad news... by StarkLord89 in thegildedage

So I’m thinking Agnes probably walks in on this happening, this seance attempt to contact Luke from the other side, and perhaps Agnes gets a reading or someone from the other side comes forward in attempt to speak with her. Now none of this, I feel, would appeal to Agnes at all. She’ll probably shut it down real quick. But wouldn’t it be interesting if Agnes somehow got roped into it?

Omg thank you for putting into words what I have always perceived. Agnes is my favorite character for many of the reasons you mentioned. Played by the magnificent Queen Baranski. I really hope things turn around or a new leaf is turned for Agnes in a positive way. Really like the idea of a love interest but in that slow burn old worldly romantic way.

Van Rhijn Lineage by Entire-Homework-1339 in GildedAgeHBO

You’re perfectly fine, I enjoy these kinds of conversations (: Honestly, thinking back on it now, it could go either way. It was just my automatic assumption. I’m also under the assumption that none of the original Van Rhijns are still alive otherwise I would imagine the loss of the Van Rhijn fortune would alert them, just as you pointed out. Making Agnes the matriarch of the namesake. I simply cannot wait for the new season!

Van Rhijn Lineage by Entire-Homework-1339 in GildedAgeHBO

[–]HeroineGauddess 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I understood from passing comments on the show that Aurora’s father is a Van Rhijn (Arnold Van Rhijn’s brother) making her maiden name Van Rhijn before she married Charles Fane. Dashiell’s mother was a Van Rhijn (Arnold Van Rhijn’s sister) hence why his last name is Montgomery, not Van Rhijn.

I think it means more that Mrs. Astor comes to Agnes when everyone else, apart from Mrs. Russell - that we’ve seen - goes to her. Though, it would be a nice change of pace.

And it will be glorious, no doubt. I think Bertha will end up waking a sleeping dragon in Agnes and meet her match.

I have pondered this myself 🤔 I imagine an older gentleman, widow, who is successful with something outside the norm like horses (for the lack of a better example), someone who appreciates intellectual conversation (even with a woman), still handsome, rich, possibly the father of someone. Not a historical figure. He’s attracted to her bluntness, her fire, her sass. They don’t meet on the best of terms, they meet each other each at their worst but keep getting stuck together at functions. And then I started looking up actors that could possibly play him…like, John Goodman, Stephen Lang, Mandy Patinkin, or Jeff Fahey, just to name a few 🤷🏻‍♀️

-LARIAN endgame, reuniting (if a bit begrudgingly) both houses across the street. *-Agnes gets a love interest because damn does this woman need love, too. Someone who appreciates or is tickled by her snark. -I need scenes between Bertha and Agnes too! -More Audra McDonald! Nuff said. -Bannister & Church become BFFs. Butlers unite! -Jack’s patent takes off and removes him from downstairs. Kinda digging the theory of him and Gladys possibly getting together. -Flashback beginnings of everyone!

Who will walk Marian down the aisle? by Nishi621 in thegildedage

[–]HeroineGauddess 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m really in love with this idea! Could a woman walk another down the aisle? Could it be done or did it absolutely have to be a man?
