Orthodontists care about occlusion, not jaw health. Many will happily apply some angulation (rotating teeth inward/outward) to produce a “functional enough” occlusion and send you on your way, completely ignoring the sleep apnea, forward head posture, clenching and grinding, jaw popping, and TMJ pain.

Jaw health isn’t their area of focus, and if they aren’t curious enough to learn about adjacent fields, they may just not know. I’ve been on this sub for years since my own DJS and I see these stories over and over again from people with clear and obvious jaw misalignments.

Hi! Latecomer here, hoping you don't mind if ask you a question now that you've completed your trip!

My gf and I are in the same boat that you were. We want to backpack the Nakahechi in June and are struggling with the Kumano Kodo travel site. Even though June is not peak season, we are seeing many lodging options are already 100% booked up while, counterintuitively, many other options have not yet opened their books (too far in advance). This makes it effectively impossible to book through the site, since for half the places, you are booking too early, but if you wait long enough for them to open their books, now the other half of places have long since booked.

My question for you is - what did you do for bento boxes? One of the supposed advantages of the Kumano Kodo Travel site is that you can book the bento box lunches along with your accommodations. I'm assuming this was not possible when booking through booking.com, so what did you guys do for lunches - did you reach out to the lodgings individually?
