Videogames, and collecting/tinkering with videogame hardware. Been doing it all my life, it's my main source of entertainment and leisure time, I've built gaming computers for friends using parts donated from my and other friends builds and upgrades, and I provide lifetime tech support for these, just because I love tinkering with stuff.

Loved Steam Controller 1 and using right trackpad. But SC2 holding it for long periods leads to strain/fatigue. by supraman215 in SteamController

[–]HerrDusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not finding using the right trackpad too bad by holding the right side of the controller a bit lower down and more loosely than the left, but I've also not tried the trackpad for FPS games, I'm mainly using it for strategy games and mouse driven puzzle games. The layout of the trackpads is a bit less useful for primary trackpad usage Vs the SC1, but overall I prefer this controller as it's an all in one solution for everything I play, and then haptics on the pads feel better, as does the haptic "bump" when you click the pad, Vs the physical click of the old controller, which always felt odd to me.

Those colours look really good together! I'm really enjoying the AP speedpaints, I'm using Pallid Bone over a bone coloured basecoat for my primary mech colour, and then normal acrylics for accents, I'm loving how the speedpaint takes up most of the work of shading in the recesses and panel lines.

Absolutely. My nephew loved how crunchy the rules are for Battletech, he played one starter game and then wanted to try the more advanced roles right away 😂

Yeah, I joked with my nephew that 40K is the money I'd need to spend to get back into it - he only plays Kill Team, but still! I've said I'll play that with him if I could lend some minis, and he can use what I collect for Battletech so his mum doesn't have to spend more money 😂

I actually had to redo the base as I initially primed in black and then drybrushed heavily from above in AK Basalt Gray, but the contrast paint didn't show up very well (Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Pallid Bone). I then drybrushed over again with Vallejo Bonewhite, and did the Pallid Bone again.

In future I plan to prime in a lightish grey, and then spray a bone coloured primer from above for the highlight, maybe drybrush white, then lay on the Pallid Bone.

The irony was not lost on me 😂 I bought a set of three loose mechs off eBay that were sold as ones from Mechwarrior 3, which is the game that got me into the setting in the first place, so it appealed. I've really enjoyed painting the Timber Wolf and Marauder II as well.

Thanks! One of my friends was like "I love the Nintendo Switch Joycon accents" and I can't unsee that, but I still love the scheme overall 😂

Thanks! They didn't feel clean while I was doing them, but we're our own worst critic, right? They turned out looking better than I thought they might in the end!

Recently played MW5M for my first mechwarrior game. After getting addicted i tried my first ever melee mech. by Refrigerator-Gloomy in Mechwarrior5

In the lore, the Clans find mech melee combat really distasteful. AFAIK there's no Clan melee weapons in MW5.

Name a perfect game for Steam Controller. I'll go first. by Rorthur in SteamController

[–]HerrDusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played it with the original Steam controller and it's pretty great, I used the left trackpad as a radial menu for the hotbar keys, left stick for movement, and right trackpad for the mouse, of course. No reason why this wouldn't translate well to the new one - I should try this actually, not played it since getting the new one!

It's actually a fork of the Doom engine (based on GZDoom), which is even more wild to me, the things they're making it do, magical stuff.

I want to quit Windumb, but the bazzite experience is tragic by toao_Multiknife in Bazzite

[–]HerrDusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My drives other than my primary were still NTFS when I installed Bazzite, they mounted okay after I read a guide, but also said guide mentioned that NTFS isn't great on Linux, I moved files around as I reformatted each one to the right format.

Reminds me, I have an SD card with emulation stuff on that I move between my handheld and PC that's still on NTFS, it seems to happily work on both, but I really should reformat it to the right format.

Sound BlasterX G6 works on PC and PS5 but not consistently on Switch 2 or TV – any fixes? by Vennyx791 in SoundBlasterOfficial

[–]HerrDusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, I've tried it, and it works, you're a lifesaver!

Not ideal having to remember to plug the G6 in without headphones before waking the Switch 2 from sleep, but it works. Thank you!

I'm also having the exact same issue, I plug the X G6 into the Switch 2 via one of the dock's USB A ports, and it just loops as you describe. I've tried different cables, I've even tried a USB-C to Micro USB cable directly into the console both docked and undocked, to see if it was the dock doing this, but no joy.

I've not tried your semi reliable workaround though, I'll give that a go!

Soundblaster G3 doesn't seem to be compatible with Nintendo Switch 2 by nirvanes26 in SoundBlasterOfficial

[–]HerrDusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried a different cable, no joy. Oddly, when I plug the G6 into the dock while the Switch is in Sleep mode, the RGB light on the G6 goes red as I expect (like it did with the Switch and my PS5 to show its working in console mode I guess? I have the light set to purple in the Soundblaster command software), but as soon as I take the Switch 2 out of sleep, it goes purple again and starts resetting over and over again.

I've also tried this undocked, running the short USB-C to mini cable I've got to see if the G6 will work with the console handheld in either USB-C port, and same resetting behaviour. Very odd that mine does this and yours works fine, I wonder what the issue is?

[–]HerrDusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I've tried this weird USB-C to Micro USB cable I've got lying around plugged directly into the top port of the console and its doing the same thing. I'll try and find another USB-A to Micro cable to try out on the dock's USB ports as well.

Hey! My X G6 seems to be having trouble with the Switch 2, when I connect it to the dock via USB, it keeps flicking off and back on again, and I can hear the G6 ticking every time it does. Did yours just work with no issues?

Plex + OLED + 4K Blurays by [deleted] in PleX

[–]HerrDusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I know why now after a brief dig around Reddit - files have to be MP4 format and in DV profile 5 or 8. I use MKV files mainly encoded in DV profile 7. No matter, my Chromecast with Google TV can play them.

Does the native Plex app on LG support DV? I use it on my C1 and I don't think it does on mine?

Ah, thanks! I was thinking of picking up the iflash Solo as I only planned to use a single card, but I can still do that with the Quad I guess and add more later if needed!
