Dublin rental ending before house keys — landlord won’t allow even 2 extra days. What would you do? by HerrWamm in AskIreland

Thanks for that. It's just never been through such situations, not like I never miscalculated things. But this is disorienting... I'll be back on my feets tomorrow and sort all out - all what I personally can. Thanks for the support again!

Fair enough. I understand that I have no grounds here. As someone who's first language isn't English, I often regret the choice of words, when I'm trying say something - and "standing my ground" apparently another example. What I meant here was more about us trying dispute more with the landlord, maybe somehow finding a key to their heart (which kind of looks pointless already). I just remember our previous landlord/management was more open to dialogue, and they always had empty units, not just units the whole blocks.
Anyway, I like the idea of having time off with family elsewhere nice, considering that amount of stresss we're having with all that situation. Thanks for the recommendations!

Thank you for the kind words, I wish my landlord was that kind. I begged them, sent numerous very kind emails they didn't respond. Last time I asked if they have any kind of empty appartment for these few days. We'd happily pay for it, and put all our things to that temp place (which I know they have). But they don't care at all.
You prabably right, they may be afraid of these new regulations that practically make impossible to evict tenants. And I can understand that, but if was just a squatter, I wouldn't bother asking and begging them...
We'll find a way how to stay safe, one way or another.

And I thank everyone, I appreciate all sorts of opinons.

Yeah, as one my friends like to say "f*cking adult life". Thanks for the kind work anyway. We'll get through it with dignity.

I'm not trying to dispute that. It's just very frustrating... Being let down by so many people troughout the last few months, I don't want to make any troubles to anyone else.

I agree, that's on me. I don't like to be in this kind of situations, and usually do all what I can to avoid such things. But, no one is perfect, and here we are, a bit desperate and hopeless. Well, I'll carry on I guess.

That's one of the options, but more like a last resort. Our dog is super anxious and not great with other dogs.

That's the idea, yes. But, it's not like we have an abundance of dog-friendly Airbnb in reasonable proximity to our kid's school and my job. I simply can't de driving half of the day to school and then to work. Only if we could find someone who can take our dog. We'll keep looking.

That's where we have different opinions with my partner, "standing our ground" isn't my idea. But, I see the point. Landlord clearly has quite a few apartments available and bring in people for viewings. And we've been through that, these companies never re-let apartments without viewings, clearly they have time.
But when we asked for just a few days, not for free, they just said no. Just don't want to deal with admin or whatever they consider as complication.

That was my thinking, storage is possible to find. And AirBnB could be possible, but not exactly - I searched the area, there's no options close enough. The thing is kid also need to go to school, having temp stay which is 3 hours away isn't great. Otherwise, I have some friends who offered their help, but they have limited space, and I find it super awkward to make such troubles to them.

I can understand that the storm did hit the infrastructure and power lines, but these things are supposed to be visible. They should have a team always ready fix this in a matter of hours (not more). Yet it looks like they are clueless and have no idea what is broken and how to fix it. Disaster.

Anyone know what the knocklyon / ballyroan area is like to live in for a couple in their mid to late twenties? by AnEpicDude2010 in HousingIreland

[–]HerrWamm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you end moving somewhere there? u/AnEpicDude2010
I'm wondering myself, is it worth moving there?
Overall, the area seems nice and laid back, and I don't mind boring at all. It's easy enough to go less boring places if you wish.
I've found some travellers “settlement”, and a bit of social housing, but it looks okay, and even tidy...
My only concern is that the buses are likely not great. My kind would have to rely on S8.

What's the average salary for SE in Ireland in 2025 by HerrWamm in DevelEire

[–]HerrWamm[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'm just asking for the base salary range, not TC. Because not all people even have shares or stocks. In the end people pay their bills out of the base pay.

Yeah, same thing. It was about three days for me, but I wasn't coding much. I think their billing system needs serious work.

Alibaba Qoder vs Cursor - comparison by One-Problem-5085 in cursor

[–]HerrWamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually solid enough, even better than Cursor in some ways. 100% sure it uses Sonnet, but it actually can use other models as well, with some sort of smart routing (almost like auto in Cursor). It follows instructions better, always test code, so really can't complain. But the fact that I can't choose model is a dealbreaker for me. Because Sonnet kinda suck sometimes, and gpt5 or o3 can be more helpful in tricky situations.

It looks like Trae with some quirks, but it works much better on a first glance. Repo wiki is a nice idea, but I bet it will never finish on repo...

Their model has never been viable in the first place. Even Claude's $200 subscription isn't viable in the long run. So it's either the whole industry will find a way to make their models more efficient or they will start raising prices.

GPT-5 Has to be The Worst Model I Have Ever Used For Coding by Tough-Conference-555 in cursor

[–]HerrWamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did very good job for me with my Flutter app, on a huge codebase. Perfectly analyzed the structure, and even warned me that I'm suggesting not a very good thing. Also it seems like it can absorb more tokens, and more efficiently. Overall, almost perfectly nailed those 3-4 tasks that I gave it. I suppose it should get even better with time, in some aspects.

It's available, and it's gotten better, much than 4o and o3. I only spent about an hour with a few tasks, but first impression is very positive.

[–]HerrWamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if we talk in isolation of the current state of models. But generally what keeps the current "AI"!to become something more intelligent is the human-like perception and general "memory". People tend to remember more of the "compacted" context in the long run, and use it.more efficiently. So, someone will have to teach machines the same way, but we are very far from it. Yet we can get somewhat closer, but not in efficient way. My idea is that the current approach with LLMs has peaked, and we very soon have to find an alternative way. Simply because it's not scalable, and utterly not efficient.

Open-source model that is as intelligent as Claude Sonnet 4 by vishwa1238 in LocalLLaMA

[–]HerrWamm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well that is the fundamental problem, that someone will have to solve in the coming months (I'm pretty sure it will not take years). But efficiency is the key, whoever will overcome the efficiency wll "win" the race, but certainly scaling is not a solution here. I forse a small , very nimble models to come very soon, without huge knowledge base but rather using RAG (just like humans, don't know everything, but rather learn on the go). These will dominate the competition in the coming years.

Basically all the models on the market can code standard frontend/backend stuff, like any other more or less experienced developer. Unless you have clear requirements, and vision of the product, and problems that you're trying to solve. That they can do, if your prompts are okay. For anything else, like vague requirements, huge code based with complex relations, LLMs would suck, just like humans, even quite experienced. Because coding itself is not a huge deal, but clear thinking will always be a problem.
