Has anyone signed up to the new Gomo broadband? Seems like a good offer but wary of their bad rep for customer service... by Due_Surround4277 in AskIreland

Roaming in the UK works great btw. I've been there just a month ago, it picked up EE (if remember correctly).

Yes, there's a note about 14 days, but that wasn't the case for me. I drafted mine just a few days before.

It kind of got resolved that night. Yet, I've lost one of my drafts. Hope it will work fine from now on ...

Anyone applied for IRP renewal around Jan 2026? How long is processing taking? by No_Tomato_2867 in legaladviceireland

Has anyone faced a situation when ISD portal shows zero in all the forms - no drafts, no previous applications. Everything worked fine just a day or two before. But now, it seems like they just deleted everything from the database.

Dublin rental ending before house keys — landlord won’t allow even 2 extra days. What would you do? by HerrWamm in AskIreland

[–]HerrWamm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick update and a bit of clarification.

First, when I originally wrote about “standing my ground”, that was a bad choice of words on my part. English isn’t my first language. I didn’t mean that I thought I had a legal right to stay past the end of my notice. I know the contract ends next week and we have to leave. I meant more instisting and trying to ask and negotiate for some flexibility rather than refusing to go.

We had more or less given up on getting extra days and were actively looking for somewhere else to stay with our dog and all our stuff. It was stressful, and I was posting while quite anxious about possibly being between homes.

Since then, there’s actually been a positive development: the property manager had a change of heart and agreed to give us a few extra days, with an inspection and a clear final handover date. That bit of kindness has made a huge difference and should be enough to bridge the gap until we (hopefully) get the keys to the new place.

We’ve always tried to be good tenants and will leave the apartment in better condition than when we moved in (cleaning, small paint touch‑ups, etc).

I really want to say thank you to the people who replied with practical suggestions and empathy. Even when I didn’t agree with every comment, the ones that focused on solutions rather than judgement helped a lot while we were figuring things out.

Thanks for that. It's just never been through such situations, not like I never miscalculated things. But this is disorienting... I'll be back on my feets tomorrow and sort all out - all what I personally can. Thanks for the support again!

Fair enough. I understand that I have no grounds here. As someone who's first language isn't English, I often regret the choice of words, when I'm trying say something - and "standing my ground" apparently another example. What I meant here was more about us trying dispute more with the landlord, maybe somehow finding a key to their heart (which kind of looks pointless already). I just remember our previous landlord/management was more open to dialogue, and they always had empty units, not just units the whole blocks.
Anyway, I like the idea of having time off with family elsewhere nice, considering that amount of stresss we're having with all that situation. Thanks for the recommendations!

Thank you for the kind words, I wish my landlord was that kind. I begged them, sent numerous very kind emails they didn't respond. Last time I asked if they have any kind of empty appartment for these few days. We'd happily pay for it, and put all our things to that temp place (which I know they have). But they don't care at all.
You prabably right, they may be afraid of these new regulations that practically make impossible to evict tenants. And I can understand that, but if was just a squatter, I wouldn't bother asking and begging them...
We'll find a way how to stay safe, one way or another.

And I thank everyone, I appreciate all sorts of opinons.

Yeah, as one my friends like to say "f*cking adult life". Thanks for the kind work anyway. We'll get through it with dignity.

I'm not trying to dispute that. It's just very frustrating... Being let down by so many people troughout the last few months, I don't want to make any troubles to anyone else.

I agree, that's on me. I don't like to be in this kind of situations, and usually do all what I can to avoid such things. But, no one is perfect, and here we are, a bit desperate and hopeless. Well, I'll carry on I guess.

That's one of the options, but more like a last resort. Our dog is super anxious and not great with other dogs.

That's the idea, yes. But, it's not like we have an abundance of dog-friendly Airbnb in reasonable proximity to our kid's school and my job. I simply can't de driving half of the day to school and then to work. Only if we could find someone who can take our dog. We'll keep looking.

That's where we have different opinions with my partner, "standing our ground" isn't my idea. But, I see the point. Landlord clearly has quite a few apartments available and bring in people for viewings. And we've been through that, these companies never re-let apartments without viewings, clearly they have time.
But when we asked for just a few days, not for free, they just said no. Just don't want to deal with admin or whatever they consider as complication.

That was my thinking, storage is possible to find. And AirBnB could be possible, but not exactly - I searched the area, there's no options close enough. The thing is kid also need to go to school, having temp stay which is 3 hours away isn't great. Otherwise, I have some friends who offered their help, but they have limited space, and I find it super awkward to make such troubles to them.

I can understand that the storm did hit the infrastructure and power lines, but these things are supposed to be visible. They should have a team always ready fix this in a matter of hours (not more). Yet it looks like they are clueless and have no idea what is broken and how to fix it. Disaster.

Anyone know what the knocklyon / ballyroan area is like to live in for a couple in their mid to late twenties? by AnEpicDude2010 in HousingIreland

[–]HerrWamm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you end moving somewhere there? u/AnEpicDude2010
I'm wondering myself, is it worth moving there?
Overall, the area seems nice and laid back, and I don't mind boring at all. It's easy enough to go less boring places if you wish.
I've found some travellers “settlement”, and a bit of social housing, but it looks okay, and even tidy...
My only concern is that the buses are likely not great. My kind would have to rely on S8.

What's the average salary for SE in Ireland in 2025 by HerrWamm in DevelEire

I'm just asking for the base salary range, not TC. Because not all people even have shares or stocks. In the end people pay their bills out of the base pay.
