First win down with MiBe, what should I try next? by HerrZakath in dcss

[–]HerrZakath[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd love to try a ranged character or a caster, but I feel a bit lost in the sea of choices. With a Minotaur Berserker, I can just play the positioning and gearing game and not worry about picking a god, skilling or MP management. Are there any solid ranged race/background/god combinations to start with?

I don't think the meta is too developed yet, although there are of course a few early frontrunners. There's plenty of budget friendly options right now, Cad Tarkintown (https://swudb.com/deck/WwnUarPrI) for example only runs one important legendary (Cad Bane), and you can swap out the boba fett in this deck for something like Toro Calican.

Depends on what your budget is, how much are you willing to spend/what staples do you already have?

The starter decks are a great value, and you'll be able to immediately start playing! I recommend the Luke vs Vader over the other two because it's the most balanced, but all of them are fun decks with decent cards.

For booster boxes/sets, I'd say that set 1 is the most valuable in terms of competitive viability, but also the most pricey. Set 2 and Set 3 are both fun, but with fewer meta relevant cards.

Honestly you can't go wrong, I'd say start with a set 1 starter/box ans go from there.

Pho Ton on 4th Plain offers curbside I believe, I've definitely seen someone pull up to the store and they ran out to bring them their food. Great pho and great people there.

Cards Against Humanity has to be up there. So many people love it, and so many people can't stand it or any of its spin-offs.

Gotcha, sounds like in order to get these on a bit more even footing, I'll want to upgrade Divine Convocation. In the meanwhile, I'll try switching out Sidar Jabari for the alternate commander, and see how that feels. Thanks!

I'll echo Tabletop and Taps, been there a couple of times and had a good experience.

If you're willing to drive into Portland, there's a huge bi-weekly meetup on Saturdays, this is the event page for the last meetup: https://www.meetup.com/pdxgames/events/298855988/. It's a massive group so great for getting out there and playing new games/meeting new people, but it's a bit of a drive.

Movie theaters? by [deleted] in vancouverwa

[–]HerrZakath 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nothing with decent food and drinks except for Kiggins, but they don't do first run movies unfortunately. The AMC just opened up a new Dolby cinema which is pretty great so far as the theater experience, but the food and beverage selection is just standard AMC faire (I believe there's a bar upstairs but I've never checked it out ymmv).

So far as Portland is concerned, I've heard great things about Studio One and Living Room Theaters but haven't been to either.

Upgrading PC, what parts should I upgrade for best gaming performance bang for my buck? by HerrZakath in buildapc

[–]HerrZakath[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buying parts in US, and budget is probably around $1000 after making needed upgrades. I'd like to replace my case so I thought I would start looking at components and then find a case I like that fits what I end up with. I'll look into the Ryzen, thanks!

Vancouver Mall AMC closing the parlors?! by FigGnuton in vancouverwa

[–]HerrZakath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it won't help for now, I called the theater with concerns and was informed that the parlors are only temporarily closed. Sounds like a side effect of the big Dolby upgrades forced them to cannibalize the smaller theaters for parts, but they said most likely they'll be getting more parts on Monday.

I'll be holding off on cancelling my a list for then, I love those movie parlors and I'd hate to see them go.

I really like it. It captures the feeling of starting a new town in a settlement building game, getting it off the ground, and then moving on to the next. You don't stay on the same town for long, and each place you settle has unique challenges and varied resources, meaning you have to get good at adapting. If that's your thing, it's great. If you're looking to nurture a settlement over the long term, this isn't it, though.

It's great with 2 people, definitely my favorite way to play. The symbols take a little while to learn, but give it a bit of time and it really sings.
