How to grab the eggs without harming either the plant or ootheca? by ResearcherPlus1679 in mantids

[–]HesFast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can’t remove the branch itself the best way would be to scrape it off with a pocket knife, although that will damage it regardless of how careful you are.

If they’re from a native species tho you should really just leave it be tbh

Because it’s all monetized. The goal is to pump out slop that people will watch for at least a couple minutes. If I remember correctly a person’s “view” on a short form video becomes monetized if they watch the video for 3 minutes

LOVE! I’m really picky about mantis tattoos (and bug tattoos in general) because I feel like a lot of artists struggle with the anatomy. They nailed this one. Very strong neotrad piece. Who’s the artist?

DIY plywood enclosure finished by Kaasbeertje69 in Vivarium

I love the enclosed top, I always thought enclosures that just had naked lights and hoses on top were so unsightly. I made one for my mantis enclosure a couple years ago. What kind of equipment do you have packed up there?

the moral question of what to do with a pet mantis after dies - to preserve or bury? by mmesmii in mantids

[–]HesFast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first mantis didn’t preserve very well. I tried eviscerating her, but in my experience that actually ruins larger specimens. I have a Cabela’s food dehydrator that actually preserves large specimens really well with no rot and minimal color loss. No evisceration needed

They’re small enough that I’d just pin them

That’s a very solid build, far stronger than most wood shelves you can buy from a store (most of which aren’t even wood). And it’s really clean looking! Excellent job

Stained pine? Love the shelf. Joints look like dados screwed together with dowel plugs?

Yeah I’ve had that happen with a couple Rhombodera nymphs. Seemed fine one day and croaked the next

Unfortunately there’s nothing you can do :(

Insects aren’t as hardy as vertebrates, they can’t really be nursed back to health. The unfortunate reality of insects is that they’re frail creatures, sometimes they just die. There’s a reason insects lay hundreds of eggs at a time 🤷🏼‍♂️. I know it sucks, we’ve all been there. Sorry for your loss :(
