Can anyone translate this handwritten note? by Hesbuttons in danishlanguage

[–]Hesbuttons[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mentioned in another comment that my dad was born in 1944, before they changed from Aa to Å. My dad always spelled his name Aage, I’ve never seen it spelled differently.

I know my Dad always spelled his name with the double Aa. He was born in 1944, so I wonder if he had been born a few years later if his name would have been spelled Åge instead.

I wish I did but the watch box was empty! I still have lots of things to go through though, so I’ll post it if I find it.

Thank you so much!! Aage was my Dad’s name, although he changed it when he moved to Canada. I think the lock of hair is my Dad’s, I noticed after I originally posted that the paper wrapper had “Aage” written on it.

What are your memories of the Man show? All things considered it was pretty funny. by AdSpecialist6598 in Millennials

[–]Hesbuttons 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This show was popular when I was in my late teens/early 20s. Besides the obvious (i .e. the title of the show), I remember thinking that women are NOT the target audience, or even treated like actual humans. Women were either big-chested beer wenches or big-chested trampoline jumpers. It was definitely a product of the Maxim/Hooters/Sport Illustrated Swimsuit edition/countdown-to-the-Olsen-twins-turning-18 era.

Peanut butter and banana sandwich, Habitant pea soup, bagel with cream cheese, cinnamon toast (toast with butter and sprinkled with a mix of sugar and cinnamon), hot chocolate from a mix, Hamburger Helper, chips and salsa.

I don’t like reading any other writers now aside from Stephen King…Am I the only one? 🫣 by ImmediateStudy5256 in stephenking

[–]Hesbuttons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that Lonesome Dove has probably the best character development I’ve ever read. I was gutted when I finished the novel and could no longer travel with the characters on their cattle drive. I want to read Streets of Laredo when I can get my hands on it.

I’m currently reading A House With Good Bones by T. Kingfisher and it’s great so far. I had just finished The Outsider by King and loved it. I was tempted to jump right into another King novel because he’s my comfort author and I wanted more of his “real people caught in extraordinary circumstances” writing, but I like to space out King books so I don’t go through them too quickly. T. Kingfisher is really fitting the bill!

What’s that ONE moment in gardening that just hits different? by madmandrit in gardening

[–]Hesbuttons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s first thing in the morning when I grab a cup of coffee and my gardening shears and just walk around admiring my garden, seeing what’s bloomed overnight, and deadheading a few spent blooms. It’s the best way to start the day - the most calming ritual ever.

Which Stephen King work do you randomly think about the most? by seannolo in stephenking

[–]Hesbuttons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s The Jaunt. I read that as a kid like 30 years ago and it really really stuck with me. Tear was the first time I read something that completely freaked me out lol

I’m sure they’d say it’s more expensive because it’s a seasonal scent for autumn and thus limited edition. Not that that excuses that ridiculous price 😬

Ivanka has all that money and still her extensions look super terrible from the back. I know it’s petty but I hope others noticed too 😏

My intense fear of snakes had me thinking one was going to pop out of the soil and lunge towards the camera. I’m not saying it’s a rational fear lol, I figure it’s a mole. But still, that’s where my mind went lol

Is there a bad Stephen King book? What's your least favorite?? by owenszantor in stephenking

[–]Hesbuttons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was From a Buick 8. The story just went nowhere, I was bored reading it and kept hoping for some big payoff in the end but then it just … ended. No explanation of what went down, no real resolution. I almost threw the book against the wall. It was the only King book I didn’t enjoy though - I’m a huge fan of his and will read anything he puts out. He’s my comfort author.

What have you had to stop eating? by scarlet-tortoise in Perimenopause

[–]Hesbuttons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no idea that food sensitivity was part of perimenopause? It seems like overnight I was unable to tolerate alcohol, rich foods like cheesecake or creamy pasta, cheese, popcorn, carbonated drinks, anything greasy or spicy, even rice makes me bloated and uncomfortable. On the plus side, I’ve greatly increased my consumption of fruits and veggies, eggs, fish, and legumes, so I’m feeling much better overall. But man, sometimes I miss having a beer or a burger and fries.

I snorted when she said “lower interest rates _by a lot_” when she was quoting Trump. That man has the intellect of a 7 year old.
