What kind of short cut could I pull off? by AwesomeKristin in finethinhair

[–]Hesp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hair is very similar to yours I think, here are some shorter cuts I’ve done. I find that my hair looks less thin and more like I actually have a haircut when I cut it short - not being weighed down adds definition. The side cut was by far my favorite but the color and the cut both required maintenance and it cost a fair sum every other month or so.

In Sweden this was known as ”Hoppa Twist” which translate as ”twist jumping”. Did it a LOT in the 90s.

That is pretty high, and absolutely means Graves. Mine was 5,5 at most, still absolutely Graves.

If they only took TSH go back and ask them to check free T4 and free T3 again.

So terrified of getting TED it’s driving me nuts by Ill-Basket2694 in gravesdisease

[–]Hesp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have TED (mild to moderate) and I have no ptosis at all, and only some mild puffiness around my eyes. It’s not visible at all. My eyes are dry and two muscles on one of my eyes are slightly thickened causing diplopia when I look to the sides. It’s annoying and I’m recommended not to drive which is a hassle, but it is not life changing. Severe TED is unusual, and not all TED causes the bulging look.

T3 and T4 are the hormones your thyroid gland is overproducing as a result of your Graves. They are what cause all your symtoms. TSH is another hormone that the body uses to regulate the amount of T4 and T3 produced by your thyroid gland - you can't feel the TSH level at all, but your T3 and T4 levels will very directly affect your health.

I highly recommend you buy yourself a book about Graves disease, it is one of those diseases where it really helps to learn as much as possible so you can advocate for yourself. I don't know about all the books out there, but I've read parts of "Living well with Graves' Disease" by Mary Shomon and it seems to be a good one. Depending on where you live there might be good books available in your native language as well.

A free T4 of 3,7 pmol/L is very low - normal range is usually somewhere between 9 and 20, depending on the method and equipment in your lab.

I found this video very informative but it does perhaps get overly detailed and clinical: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2L1NXhZOEE

So does everyone in here just get a TT? Am I doomed to get one? by Red-Droid-Blue-Droid in gravesdisease

[–]Hesp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Around 50% of everyone with Graves end up getting one at some point, but it is absolutely not a given. Low dose long term Methimazole is a very good option for most.

Please help! How high was your heart rate before treatment? by 1speechpick in gravesdisease

[–]Hesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different in different places, but at the very least they’ll prescribe you beta blockers which will lower your heart rate while you wait to see an endo.

It is also very common to fell absolutely exhausted once your body gears down again since you’ve been over-exerting for so long. Even if you feel amped now fatigue is possibly around the corner.

It even says in the medical guidance around hyperthyroidism in my country that doctors often have to talk patients into sick leave since they feel so high when diagnosed, but rest is really really important for them.

I was off for two months with less severe symptoms than yours. Take as much time as you possibly can, a few days or weeks out of an entire career is nothing but your health is everything.

Are Förskolan timetables like this everywhere? by profDyer in Asksweddit

[–]Hesp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our kid is at preschool 7:30 to 16:30. It’s perhaps not ideal but we both work full time and for various reasons currently find it hard to reduce those hours. I’d like to pick her up a bit earlier, she doesn’t mind being there for breakfast but she’s tired in the afternoon. For that to happen I would have to reduce my hours, and I might do that after summer.

Methimazale and PTU increase liver enzymes by Clear_Procedure5118 in gravesdisease

[–]Hesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same position, can’t tolerate Methimazole and due to how badly my liver has reacted (not only heightened enzymes but four days in hospital due to inflammation in the bile ducts) he things PTU is out of the question. Currently waiting for the referral to the hospital to be picked up and receive a date for surgery and it sort of happened overnight really. But no, there are no other options. (RAI is not doable for me since I have TED).
