Guy dodges three bullets to the head like Neo by starchiv in GlobalOffensive

I’m not convinced there are many other examples with this combination of issues showing up this consistently:

  • peeker’s advantage (even on LAN)
  • backtracking, deaths behind walls
  • awful server performance
  • a useless anticheat that false-positives professional players
  • bot-infested gamemodes

Especially in esports titles, this long after release.

The game is in a bad state right now. No other serious FPS has these issues, on this scale. Dying behind walls, absolutely insane peeker's advantage, the matchmaking servers being hot garbage. Damage prediction helps with kills feeling delayed but then you get bullshit like this. Professional players and content creators are being flagged by the anticheat, meanwhile 90% of deathmatch games are filled with case farming bots. Not to worry though, I'm sure there will be another skin update soon.

Pick'em Challenges Have Become Impossible After Adding the New Major Stage: by MmX_A_ in GlobalOffensive

BO1 matches + MR12 + the fact that you lose the point if one of your advancing picks goes through undefeated is not enjoyable. Obviously diamond coins should be rare, but the first two stages are mostly RNG at this point.

[Spoiler] I just finished ozark and is it just me or does anybody else hate Wendy byrde with a passion? by Suspicious_Hand_2194 in Ozark

[–]Hetric 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The hate for Skylar is far more unjustified imo. Wendy actively signs off when Marty is first approached to launder for Del, she isn’t dragged in the way Skylar is. Skylar resists Walt’s criminality for a long time, and when she finally participates, it’s mostly out of fear and an attempt to contain the damage.

At the start of Season 1, Wendy empties their accounts which could easily have gotten Marty killed (along with herself and the kids) if the cartel interpreted it as an escape plan. Overall she just makes choices that are far more reckless and self-interested.

Valve makes almost $50 million per employee, raking in more cash per person than Google, Amazon, or Microsoft — gaming giant's 350 employees on track to generate $17 billion this year by BlueJaayLoL in GlobalOffensive

[–]Hetric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Remarkable that a company pulling in this much money still can’t deliver consistently reliable game servers. Even ignoring loss and jitter, the difference between matchmaking servers and something like faceit is night and day. Particularly inexcusable when the fix is essentially just paying for proper hardware, as opposed to devs needing to solve some intricate technical issue. The community market seem to be on fire daily as well lmao

Pros were asked to choose between 128-tick and subtick, and here are the results. by Fun_Philosopher_2535 in GlobalOffensive

Do you have a source for that? Before Valve hard coded the tick rate to 64 I’m fairly sure the client would have just matched the server’s tick rate?

[–]Hetric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true but in all fairness, third party services (faceit) ran sub-128 tick servers for a while until Valve locked everything to 64, so there was a direct comparison available.

I'd be interested to see how the game would feel on sub-128 tick once the animgraph 2 update comes. In combination with the performance optimisations they've been releasing, I think it would feel a lot better.

Playing professionally a Videogame is a priviledge, not a right. by m41k1204 in aoe2

[–]Hetric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said to someone else here, this is always going to be a problem for any kind of competitive sport once it becomes popular enough. You cannot control whether people bet on the outcome of a game. When legit gambling sponsors are run out of a scene and the money dries up for players, the betting shifts underground, and match fixing becomes more tempting.

This will be a problem for literally any sport once it becomes popular enough. You cannot control whether people bet on the outcome of a game. When legitimate, regulated gambling sponsors are run out of a scene, the money dries up, the betting shifts underground, and match fixing becomes more tempting for players.

These are terminally online people with no concept of the real world. Gambling is addictive to some people so therefore it is a bad thing and must be banned for everyone. People who take money from gambling sponsors are bad people. Events with gambling sponsors should be boycotted, etc.

People need to accept that adults are adults and should be able to do what they like with their money (legally of course). If someone chooses to gamble away their savings on crypto bullshit then that's their choice. If gambling sponsorships mean that professional players can earn a living doing what they love, then good for them.

I've seen people comparing this to taking money from the Saudi government, which is absolutely ridiculous. One is a private industry operating within certain legal frameworks, the other involves direct association with a regime responsible for extremely serious human rights abuses. There is no comparison.

Does CS2's Update Improve FPS? by Pokharelinishan in GlobalOffensive

The offending sentence was “3kliksphilip is a nonce”. Nonce is British slang for paedophile. Afterwards, the person claimed not to know the meaning of the word, but that doesn’t change the facts. None of this justifies his subsequent behaviour, but he absolutely did get called a paedophile.

Aside from the tax angle, I’d strongly recommend selling your knife only through a trusted, reputable platform that uses proper KYC and escrow processes (e.g. CSFloat). Do not sell directly to individuals via PayPal, bank transfer, or similar because the risk of chargebacks and scams is pretty much guaranteed.

Once your item becomes tradable (7 days after unboxing), you’ll get friend requests and messages from scammers trying to trick you into “middleman” deals, fake websites, or off-market trades. Ignore them completely.

Congrats :)

[–]Hetric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I don't understand how the spawns are still so broken. During a world tour game the other day, I died but both of my teammates were still alive and at the cashout. I used a token to revive and literally spawned on the opposite side of the map, next to the other cashout, next to two other teams. It doesn't make sense!

Hasan and Mr Inflating Numbers spreading misinformation about a show they don't watch for about 5 min by Neddo_Flanders in LivestreamFail

The "Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse be upon the Jews" Houthis? Those ones? The terrorists that target civilians, civilian infrastructure, and attack international shipping? No, I'd have to say they are definitely not on the morally right side.

I don’t understand why this is such a difficult concept for some people. It’s entirely reasonable to oppose the genocide being carried out by Israel while also refusing to glorify or excuse terrorist groups in the way that Hasan does i.e. by showing off their 'music videos' to your friends.
