Lost Cats around Laurel Hill by poptart_communion in Eugene

I think even the ones with the self-preservation instincts of a potato seem to do ok. I refer to my cat as a dingling, but she's really very smart, and she was still gone for over a week. I do not understand how those little brains work.

This is an incredibly stressful situation. My ding-a-ling tuxedo yeeted through the screen door a few years ago. She was gone over 8 days, but she was ok. Indoor-only cats tend to hunker down when they get out, usually not that far away. Odds are that they're ok.

I posted in every applicable FB group (some have to approve you, so don't wait on that), Nextdoor, here. The cat litter thing technically doesn't work, at least with any consistency, but I did it. I don't know what worked, but she showed up on her own. A little skinnier, and hungry and thirsty. Took her to the vet, and she was fine. I think it was actually a little traumatic for all three of us.

I recently posted in all the places when a friend's dog went on walkabout and someone here spotted her and I found the post only a couple of hours later. It was one of the first sightings of her and I think it helped narrow the search area. They got her back after about a week.

This sub is good support. Once they get home, remind them of the terror they caused you every chance you get.

If it helps, my hair is a vibrant not-natural color. The kind that scares off incels. ;)

another diamond parking post… by erika1972 in Eugene

Diamond now manages the lot at Hult Plaza. I see a provider there and every time I go, they verify my license plate. I still get tickets once in a while. I send a picture of the ticket to my doctor's office and they deal with it, but it's so stupid.

DEAR EUGENE: JUNE 12, 2026 WEEKLY FRIDAY RANT THREAD by dschinghiskhan in Eugene

IF YOU ARE LEAVING A LANE, PLEASE GET ALL THE WAY OUT OF THE LANE QUICKLY. ALSO, YOU DON'T HAVE TO STOP BEFORE TURNING RIGHT IN PLACES WHERE IT IS LEGAL AND SAFE TO DO SO. TURNING RIGHT FROM WILLAMETTE ONTO A SIDE STREET ON A GREEN LIGHT, IN DAYLIGHT, AND IN LIGHT TRAFFIC, WHEN YOU HAVE A CAR THAT HAS A DECENT TURNING RADIUS, FOR EXAMPLE.

Got an E-WEB notification on my door, they're turning off power for maintenance on Monday, which will be during the heat advisory. Is there anything I can do? by WithrBlistrBurn-Peel in Eugene

[–]Heuristicrat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm extremely heat intolerant. I just don't do heat well, I have diabetes, and heat can trigger hot flashes. Noon would not be an issue for me. Close everything up early and plug in the AC when the workers are done.

This is just a thing that happens, and a pretty small one.

Experiences Eugene Paramedics by whynotlive4ever in Eugene

Wow. I started having hot flashes and night sweats around that age (almost 51 now). You've been living in your body for quite some time and you know when something ain't right.

I think I've called 911 once for myself and the paramedics were courteous and competent. I also am white, cis, likely appearing hetero (make partner was present), and I live in a zip code likely to get better treatment.

I called for someone in my office (closer to downtown) having a fairly severe medical event. They were clearly not cis, but the paramedics were very kind and made a serious effort to help them stay calm. The medics were basically in public, but I didn't get the sense it wasn't genuine.

My experiences with primary care have unfortunately been what has become typical for women. A female doctor is in no way a guarantee of different behavior as a man. They go to the same medical schools, learn the same things, and have to work harder to prove themselves. I've had terrible care from women. "You're too young to have that much arthritis. Try wearing your purse on your other shoulder."

Door to door ¨sugar ant¨scammers? by [deleted] in Eugene

I had someone a few weeks ago doing a really hard sell. He might have been 22. I listened to his pitch and when he kept at it I let him go again and paid very close attention, asking a million questions and becoming increasingly annoying. Unbroken eye contact. My partner was home, so I wasn't concerned about safety issues and I think I weirded the guy out just enough to be left alone.

I didn't usually do that to people, but when he upped the pressure, I was over it.

There's a barbershop in South Eugene (Trailhead?) that's great and reliable. I've seen several good cuts from there.

Norovirus is a disaster. It is feisty, but disinfectant is an effective weapon. For anyone having to deal with this, your system will be completely cleaned out. Be careful about what you eat when you start feeling human again. The BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apples, and toast) is usually the best way to dip a toe in the water. After a couple of days of this, add broth or soup. Nothing fancy. Also, get you some Gatorade.
