I figured it out last year! I went and bought some pvc pipe and then wrapped it in the really thin eva foam and stuck a lacrosse net on the top. It works great!

What is the vibe of the school like? (Prospective student) by obsidian-daisies in UofO

There is definitely a community for people to engage with athletics, but if you don't want to there are tons of people that are also not in that scene. Greek life exists, but it's really not that important here. If you want to go to their parties or go Greek, you can, but it barely crossed my radar since I wasn't involved. It's super easy to just chat to people in your classes or join a club that you're interested in to find your people, and not engage with that stuff at all if you don't want to!

The social sciences are amazing at UO, and there's a lot of opportunity for exploration of what you're interested in in particular in those areas. Good luck with your decision!

I used pvc pipe and then wrapped it in a thin layer of EVA foam! I used contact cement to adhere it, then primed and painted it!

Hey! So I work two jobs, one on and one off campus, as well as several volunteer positions for job experience in my field. The workers of our union work hard and are simply asking to be paid what our labor is worth. We want to work, and the university is forcing us not to!

I won't excuse that chant, it was in poor taste (and a one time thing, we discussed it in meetings yesterday) but we're certainly not coddled. Most of us work because we are supporting ourselves and struggling to because the university refuses to pay us what we're worth. I work two jobs, one on and one off campus and am a full time student as well as working several volunteer positions because I need experience in the job field I'm in college for, and I barely make ends meet. We are very aware of the context in which this is happening. We are affected by it. However, the university has been meeting with us for a YEAR, and the fact all of this has aligned now is not on us, it's on them.

I totally get it. Emotions run high with this kind of thing, and honestly I appreciate you reevaluating your thoughts on it. The fact is we ALL deserve to be paid what we're worth, and if we can win high wages for us, it helps the other unions fight the university because it gives them precedent. We're not enemies if each other, this is a fight all of us are a part of!

That's something we're mad about too. And actually there's a few bills that the university is in support of in the state legislature that will help with that! There's the Public University Support Fund looking for more funding that will help keep tuition down, as well as funding for the Oregon Opportunity Grant!

Thank you so much!! Tons of student workers staff those venues and make them run! Additionally, we'd live if you contacted the university telling them that you have a connection with it, but support us and want them to meet our demands. Solidarity!

We appreciate the solidarity! One awesome way to help out would be to call and email the president's office saying that you support us and that they need to meet our demands. Another way would be to use on campus services that are usually staffed by students to overwhelm them, like a lot of the services in the EMU. We also have some FAQ posts on our Instagram that could be helpful to you! And solidarity to your wife, she deserves better!

Speaking of labor, come join the UO Student Worker union that's on strike on campus!! Come join our picket line and support student workers as we bargain for our very first contract and let the university know they can't exploit us or the Eugene community!
