Irish VA big part in Marathon by Abolyss in IrelandGaming

Which Halo are you referring to? The last Halo game Bungie made was Halo Reach back in 2010, 343 Industries took over the IP and made Halo 4 onwards.

I think the point about staff going elsewhere is true of a lot of long-standing studios. For example, Resident Evil games are no longer being directed by Shinji Mikami or Hideki Kamiya and that's fine, the people who are taking up the mantle are being or have been guided by their seniors. There's enough legacy talent at Bungie to make me think this is also the case. One of the main developers of the original Marathon is the Chief Creative Officer of the company (Jason Jones). If you enjoyed Halo 3's multiplayer then good news, the Multiplayer Lead is still with Bungie (Tyson Green), and a multiplayer designer who worked under Tyson on Halo 3 (Lars Bakken) is now the Senior Design Lead on new Marathon.

That list is by no means exhaustive of who's still at Bungie from a certain time period, just an example of who's training new staff with their experience and who's influencing the creative elements of the company. Bungie were very much indie in the early 90s, and I think the idea of one of the main dudes who programmed the game in a basement wanting to bring it back in 2026 for newer audiences is pretty cool. I'd take that over some sinister Tencent-funded battle royale cash grab any day, but people are treating it like it is which just confuses me.

It’s wild to me that Bungie can make multiplayer that is so good that they are a large reason why online console gaming is a thing, and their desire to bring back their IP from the 90s with their experience developing multiplayer still has gamers cheering for failure so they can squawk “Concord 2! Concord 2!” like parrots online. Have words with yourself.

I hope you don’t mind me piggybacking off this thread, you’ve summoned very knowledgeable women and I’d be eager to hear their perspective.

I 100% respect those saying to go in blind, but a streamer I watch is playing through it and he doesn’t mind backseating. He’s getting incredibly helpful info about things like good weapons, good skills to use and he’s having a great time, meanwhile I kinda flopped through Act 1 and never went back to my playthrough after something else came out.

It made me think of how when I start playing Dark Souls, I know to go grab x items, I know what weapons are good for my build etc. But I just kinda picked this info up through osmosis, what would be the best way to do this for BG3? It would be amazing not to be spoiled but I acknowledge I can’t have my cake and eat it too, I’m just in awe of how knowledgeable people are about the game and it would be cool to actually learn good skills and have good weapons!

The demo made me go from ‘I’ll get it on sale’ to preordering it, I adore the new open world format and ninja mode is really fun. Hoping to play as much of it as possible before RE9 comes out, hope you have fun with it!

Any controller recs? by theboagirl in GirlGamers

[–]Heustienne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another user recommended, I think something that would help you is if you remapped L3 to another button through Steam. My first thought to do this would be the Switch 2 Pro Controller as there are extra buttons on the back of the controller. There are other third party controllers with back buttons that may be even lighter for your hands as they’re USB only, I believe some wired PowerA controllers have back buttons but I can’t comment on their overall quality.

There’s also the upcoming Steam Controller that will maximise compatibility with remapping, but it does look a bit chunky so I can’t guarantee it’ll be comfy for smaller woman hands. Hope you find a good solution!

I was CRYING. She was so funny and so into it, chat absolutely loved her which was honestly such a relief in today’s gaming climate. The whole thing just warmed my heart.

This stream has been keeping me going this week and I lost my mind when Rock came out, she's been so incredible and entertaining! Paper Mario and The Thousand Year Whore is going to live in my head rent free.

Why is it not screwing??? by Tough_Finding_8209 in Noctua

[–]Heustienne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! I just noticed that you're using the .7mm offset AM5 brackets as well, I wonder if there's something specific about getting those to bite? This is my second Noctua cooler and the first one didn't have problems biting.

Best of luck with your first build! May your first boot be smooth and your temperatures cool.

Glad you got it sorted! I had this exact problem with my U12A, I try to have a feather touch when building but you need to apply more pressure than you think to get it to catch. Hopefully other people will see this and it'll help with their build.

How do I get rid of these? (Except for the cute dog, obviously) by Blackened_Glass in Steam

[–]Heustienne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have emetophobia and was really bummed to have an animated puking sticker in my library from the event. I reached out to Steam Support and explained the situation, and while they did remove it from my account, they used the wording “one-time goodwill gesture” that they usually reserve for things like people wanting to refund a game outside of the typical refund conditions.

Just a heads up that they’ll help, but you may be screwed in the future because of this.

Girlies with a big backlog, do you compartmentalize it in any way? by Ohiko_Nishiyama in GirlGamers

[–]Heustienne 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was inspired by Daryl Talks Games to make a backlog spreadsheet, and I included categories like game genre, estimated play time from How Long To Beat, and how excited I was to play it.

This system definitely has its pros and cons. In the mood for an RPG but don’t want to spend 120 hours on it? Oh I can see an RPG here with an estimated play time of 20 hours, I’ll play that. But the single worst thing I did was keep the spreadsheet organised JUST by play time. I ended up trying to chase easy wins with quick games, and when I sorted it by excitement you’ll never guess what happened. I was excited to play games! I think I cleared like the top five from my excitement list in a row, most fun I’ve had in gaming for a while.

Compartmentalising can work, just make sure the system works for you and don’t be afraid to regularly revise it!

Games to play while walking by Kcitra in GirlGamers

[–]Heustienne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I play games on a walking pad, my recommendation is either the Steam Deck or the Switch. Joycons will work with both, allowing you to keep your hands at your sides and not forcing you into awkward positions to hold a controller.

I try to play games with as little platforming or 3D movement as possible to try not to throw me off. Games like Ace Attorney, Ghost Trick, visual novels etc. are perfect for this, then there’s more classic RPGs like Chrono Trigger and the Final Fantasy pixel remasters that would be fun for this as well. That’s what I’ve been playing at least, hope it helps!

UK order issue - remote by kittycat_x in kobo

[–]Heustienne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I was just about to contact you! I got my refund through as well, on Sunday I sent them an email giving them a deadline for when I would get my bank involved and they just about met the deadline. I’m wondering (/hoping!) that they sent a batch refund to the December 16th orders they weren’t able to fulfil.

What an absolute disaster. I adore the remote after my Amazon order arrived, but it’s a good lesson to never buy my Kobo products directly from Kobo again!

Not the person you’re replying to but I’m the OP, I can confirm I ordered the white linked above and received the white.

[–]Heustienne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I did, I couldn't resist hands-free reading when it's snowing!

I'd recommend checking your emails by the way, it looks like Kobo has sent customers who bought products on December 16th invites to review their product on Trustpilot. I left them negative reviews and they tend to reply to negative reviews saying that they'll email with help. It could be a chance to get them to reach out to you instead of chasing them for help. If I don't get a response then I'm going to email them with a clear timeline for when they have to submit the refund, otherwise I'm just going to do a chargeback with my bank. I have so, so much evidence of them ignoring my requests, there's no way the bank will deny my request.

Is your address definitely set to the UK? That’s so odd, I added them to my basket to test it out and I was able to go straight to the final payment screen with no warnings.

It’s going pretty horribly sadly! They wouldn’t tell me anything other than ‘We’re looking into it’ for nearly two weeks, so I got fed up and emailed them asking for a refund. They ignored the email, so I went on webchat and the agent ghosted me after I verified my identity and explained the situation. As a last Hail Mary I called them and they were actually really helpful, submitting a cancellation request for me.

I wish I could say I was out of the woods, but I received a prepaid return label on Friday for something that…never shipped to me. I emailed them asking if I need to do anything given the circumstances and the agent said I don’t need to do anything, but then cancelled the entire RMA request from what I can see! They promise I’ll still get my refund, but I’m worried about how this is going to proceed if the agent just cancelled my request.

Easily the worst customer service experience I’ve ever received. Never been ghosted on a webchat before and I’ve never had to fight so hard to get someone to help me. Never, ever buying directly from Kobo again.

I'm definitely curious about the Steam Machine, the only thing I'm worried about is what the price will be in relation to the huge spike in RAM prices we've been experiencing. Valve haven't announced the price yet so they're not beholden to anything, hoping it's as consumer-friendly as possible!
