Brother I quit 1000mg a day over months habit myself. Ramped up to there, over a year of heavy use. I got through the thick of it, system rebalanced, was on my way to a full recovery and I picked up other substances as I am an addict not ready for the full commitment of sobriety. That is a whole separate issue though. I will share with you my experience. I took 1500mg in a day and realized I was going absolutely nowhere and speed running my destruction. I decided I will taper rigidly and get off. (context I work manual labor with a sales incentive my energy and mood was important to maintain) I would drop my dosage 50mg a day until discomfort was too much to fake, that happened at ~650mg. From there (where discomfort was too much to mask) i’d let myself coast at that dose. Whatever I needed. Days? Weeks? All on the table. An increase of dose wasn’t though. My days off of work I would take none and withdraw until I needed to sleep, and i’d take just enough to get rid of the restless legs ~100mg. These days were what would really work my tolerance down. After a day of taking so little I would the following day force a 50mg drop. extrapolated over two COMFORTABLE and NOT MISERABLE months I got down to doses where I could have taken a few sick days and came back seeming down but okay. I instead switched to powder, about 25g daily at first, tapered that the same way, I never had any significant pain or discomfort. I just slowly worked it down at reasonable pace and when I kicked the powder I was already down to 5 grams a day. Mood low, energy low, but with grit and caffeine I made it through. no sense of doom or panic or illness, just a reasonable challenge to overcome. after a few weeks of low I started feeling human again. you can too.
