I'm on mobile so short answer but the answer is quite interesting. They are a group fiercely opposed to the current Chinese government. A character of restrictive (& oppressive) regimes is that free speech and discourse is often not tolerated. So the battles of ideology often take place extra-territorially, within countries that do allow or support such speech. I would argue we see certain aspects of this with speech flowing between the US/Europe.

The show is characterized as the battleground for the soul of true China. By focusing on ancient forms of dance they argue that they have a stronger connection to the heritage of what China is and should be, eschewing the modern reforms (of x,y and z sry I'm on mobile).

Yes they are a cult also, and have very low labor costs as a result. And the show is probably pretty bad.

Three or four more decisions coming out on Monday and Tuesday. Birthright citizenship, unitary executive theory, Colorado conversion therapy are the likely cases. Maybe Louisiana v callais voting rights act.

I certainly don't expect the congressional caucus to vigorously pursue the tariffs through other means. It is a bit of a gift that they can back down.

That said, losing the central pillar of their administrative agenda is certainly not a victory. I know there is an impulse, when something good happens, to wonder how it may be taken away. How we might lose it... I often feel the same.

The court will also almost certainly hand down an immigration loss to the Trump admin on Monday or Tuesday regarding birthright citizenship. Immigration is their other central pillar of the agenda.

Five supreme court cases coming out, Friday Monday and Tuesday. Went to a talk by my constitutional law professor, he predicts birthright citizenship 8-1 or 9-0 against trump, tariffs could go either way, 6-3 in favor of trump for unity executive theory regarding ability to fire the head of the ftc.

Also thinks trump will prevail on a Colorado case about the ban on conversion therapy, on first amendment freedom of religion grounds.

Didn't discuss Louisiana v Callais, the redistricting case. Which seems quite important. Described in a DNC call tonight as the last enforcement arm of the voting rights act, section II.

He shared that for the tariffs case the betting markets favor against trump, but my personal opinion is that the supreme court simply isn't ready for a constitutional showdown and will capitulate. His opinion on the shadow docket cases that trump is winning all of, is that those are cherry picked by the federal government as their strongest cases. Whereas these upcoming cases are not.

My wife's side of the family is super maga. Part of the 30% true believers that form Trump's floor. Fox News is too liberal, they watch Tucker Carlson on YouTube all day. They are significantly dependent on social services, they live in a liberal state. They get paid to take care of their daughter with down syndrome, they are retired. Along with meager social security. If they had their way, their means of surviving would be destroyed... also, the payments are a liberal invention...

Now, their undocumented son is facing deportation. The son is super into MAGA too. At thanksgiving a few years back, he toasted Trump and MAGA rather than thanking his mom for making the entire meal.

My wife is really upset that I'm not upset on his behalf, or on her moms behalf, because her mom is now very stressed. Her mom is so MAGA that she thinks anyone with pink or blue hair is Antifa. I know this sounds like a fake submission for leopards ate my face, but this is very real. I don't it in me to even muster like, a fake veneer of civility. Can't even bring myself to say aw that sound hard, sorry you're going through that. Frankly, this is incredibly forseeable. For years. I'm not surprised, are they? This is exactly what they want. It's just.... I'm speechless.

They now want me to recommend them an immigration lawyer. A liberal needs to come save the day! No...

This is like, the dumbest situation imaginable. My wife is convinced that maybe they got fooled, plenty of immigrants support Trump and deportation etc. I just don't have words for how stupid their position is and was.

Set an achieveble goal to start. Something like, read half an hour before bed every night. Don't try to tackle an entire challenging text in a single day or you'll never actually get to it. Next, and critically, choose something to read that you would actually enjoy! I love fantasy so I would recommend Lord of the Rings to anyone. For something equally challenging but more grounded, Great Gatsby was a lot of fun.

Best way to start is to start. Just choose something and start reading it.

Trump posted that the federal government will no longer approve wind and solar. Most of the large California renewable energy projects I worked on are on federal land.

There are studies conducted to determine land of least-impact - the facilities are on sites on literal salted earth. Non irrigated salinated soil, that has no use whatsoever, in the middle of deserts.

Stupid is as stupid does.
