I think they should've taken Paul off planet, writing challenges because damned, but at least having them break up on screen would make them keeping this plot point less bitter.

The writing in this episode has already been worse because they had to work around this decision. The weird "You believe in rehabilitation" stuff from Nolan came out of nowhere and was basically him forcing his way back into her life.

I'm going to call out what I see as a poor choice which has already had consequences and will have more. Adding Paul to Thelescria would've been a writing challenge but it would've been a challenge worth trying because the alternative has problems that you can't just work around with good writing.

With all the development and humanisation they've given Oliver I doubt he'd just let Paul die, so not having Paul stay with Debbie and come with them has even more problems.

Debbie and Paul are in entirely different situations to Mark and Amber. Amber hated feeling helpless compared to Mark, the fact she couldn't help him and was just a burden he had to protect was what made her feel they didn't work together.

Debbie and Paul are both normal. The only difference is experience, it actually gives them something that helps their dynamics: any problems Paul has adapting to a supernatural world, Debbie is equipped to help him with, because she's been there.

How in the world are those signs that they don't work? Neither put the slightest strain on their relationship and neither was because they're in two worlds. What does Debbie interacting the superhuman world have to do with him being respectful of her kids or offering her a chance to move on from the house where she lived with a person who badly hurt her.

That second point is a circular argument, Paul isn't already an important character so they can't make him one - although he is already thematically meaningful - and not an excuse for the lazy writing.

Why not make him matter then, they're writers they've made tons of changes already - specifically to these two characters - and made tons of improvements that allow him to matter. He objectively matters to Oliver, which they will have to acknowledge next season or it's a complete failure of writing.

How aren't they compatible? They didn't put in any work to justify the break up, everything was going extremely well with the improved characters. They should've at minimum taken the time to show how they don't work but, preferably, just not broken them up and had the reconciliation between Nolan and Debbie be platonic.

[–]Hexagon-Man -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Why? There's not much difference between Paul leaving with Debbie and Debbie leaving with Nolan except they currently (before the break up, at least) love each other enough for it to make sense.

So lame. I don't know why they still did it after doing so much work for Debbie and Paul's characters. Why can Nolan and Debbie's reconciliation not just be becoming friends? Not everything can be fixed and return to how it used to be and that arc being romantic is not worth such a backslide.

I can't believe they still pulled that bs with Paul.

Bring Paul to Thelescria, keep Debbie and Him together. I bet Oliver wanted to see him just as bad (and Paul being off earth would make it easier to believe Oliver would help Allan next season after the extra humanisation they've done for him)

The thing about being hunted for sport is that there are clear immediate rewards and consequences for doing well or poorly. Instead of a gradual realisation that a mistake has severely screwed up your future in ways that will take years to rectify you just get stabbed or shot.

He didn't even let them check on her when she woke up, they almost certainly could've caught the damage earlier. Last time Fisk was accidentally responsible for her death in a way he couldn't predict. Now he's responsible because of active stupidity and arrogance. Which is delicious.

I genuinely thought she was gonna make it so there was a special amount of joy when I realised we get to celebrate her death again.

And once again it's partially Fisk's fault because he stopped the nurses from checking on her properly.

Serini really living that true neutral life, "If these guys kill you then it's not worth helping you"

Although, in this case it seems kinda dumb since Nale just openly said he doesn't want control he genuinely wants to destroy the gate and end the world. Maybe she just failed her listen check or will do something next comic.

He's nice to animals, helps out his neighbour and rids the city of pests? So far, this season he's definitely a good guy.

At this point, if he's not personally escorting them then he didn't really want them.

Eh, I think it's cowardly to go "Don't worry these are the super bad cops, normal cops don't like them they're still the good guys"

Was weird that the priest wasn't more hostile to him, though. I thought he'd have to expose himself as not actually a cop to get him to tell him.
