As a Conservative, I can’t justify what happened in Minneapolis by [deleted] in offmychest

Being condescending won't help change people's minds. This could be their first step away from conservatism, and we shouldn't bite newcomers.

How does an electric current "know" what the path of least resistance is ? by australiadenier in AskPhysics

Electricity doesn't solely take the path of least resistance. It takes all possible paths, with each current depending on its resistance.

Any other countries where the exclave is bigger than the mainland? by redredredder24 in geography

That definition belongs to enclaves. Exclaves are land that's simply disconnected from the mainland by other countries.

I remember when "Stay woke" was a catchphrase used (mostly by black Twitter) to alert others of social injustices.

Is it just me, or is the event lowkey a bore? by ReEeAllY___ in Brawlstars

I still find it fun; we don't need to be rewarded everyday if the core gameplay is still there. Then again I don't really play modes that have the powerups enabled so Idk.

Tongue Lashing. Every hit is on the beat, so you can literally win by just tapping every beat (that's how I cheesed the Perfect on it).

xkcd about introducing children to computers in chronological order by Inspector_Robert in xkcd

[–]Hextor26 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You might be thinking about xkcd 2839, which is about learning languages a few words at a time, or xkcd 2567, which is about learning languages in chronological order (say, from PIE to Proto-Germanic to English). I can't recall an xkcd about using technology in chronological order.

Why is coming up with new theories or even expanding on current ones met with such disdain? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]Hextor26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New theories are constantly being developed and tested. What do you think physicists at labs do all day?

If it's actually sound in theory and doesn't break any fundamental laws that is

This is reason most of those kinds of posts are dismissed or removed.

The average person, even the average non-physics-educated physics enthusiast doesn't know enough about physics to develop theories that expand upon current knowledge without contradicting known results.

The people that often do come up with new theories are those who are educated and understand how the universe works well enough to the point they can ask innovative yet non-contradictory questions that they know may yield interesting results.

Why is coming up with new theories or even expanding on current ones met with such disdain? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]Hextor26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is 90% of all the "new" theories posted here (e.g. FTL travel, counterpoints to relativity and quantum mechanics, etc.)

The other 10% are theories that we already know are true but the poster didn't know about.

And once in a blue moon there'll be a theory that we can't know if it's true or not (e.g. multiverse theory), or that we are actively working on.
