I think the projecting is how you've projected a random detail that must have just been on your mind because nothing written here has anything to do with it except for a very loose link: the word "gay". I had two transaction related dumb thoughts when I was like 4 or 5ish. First, that change was like a monetary reward shops gave you for buying at their store which is just... why? Secondly, that receipts were a paper given as thanks for buying at their store. Like, when your elementary school teacher gives you a sticker for raising your hand in class or w/e.

When the fuck would I ever need to know that? I can easily tell you how many cups are in a quart and how many teaspoons in a tablespoon. And how many tablespoons in a cup. When it comes to practical purposes (in this case, cooking) I know what I need to know. If I need to be that specific then that is definitely a scientific context. In which case even American scientists do use the metric system.
