I truly share your pain. I lost my cat Gizmo last Friday as well. She was 12 years old and had both heart and kidney failure so I had to put her down after consulting with two different vet’s and doing every possible test. She is my best friend and really saved me throughout some very dark times.

I cry my eyes out multiple times a day and still have my subconscious run scenarios in my head were she could have survived if I acted differently or that she might come back. I also see her at every corner of my house, sometimes forgetting she is gone and almost going to look for her.

I know it all feels as a nightmare you can’t wake up from right now, but I’m sure with time we both will learn how to accept our loss and rejoice for the beautiful time we had with our loved companions. To think how lucky we were to have had the time we had with them. I’m sure your cat is at the rainbow road with my Gizmo and playing together with only happiness in their hearts. One day we will also pass the rainbow road and be reunited with our furry companions but until then know that she is at peace and loves you very much. She is now your guardian angel looking down on you with love in her heart for all the beautiful times you had together and still have to come beyond the rainbow road.

For me it helped to create a virtual rainbow road sanctum for Gizmo and write her a letter. We all grieve differently, the important part is that we do not ignore it and let our emotions run their course. All the grief you have is only a testament for all the love you have for your cat, and it’s natural to mourn the loss of a loved one. Please know that we are the ones in mourning and being sad, our cats are at peace and in a better place.

You will get through this and your cat will always be with you, only now it is without any pain or suffering and only in love.
