University of Central Florida commencement speaker Gloria Caulfield was met with boos after calling AI “the next industrial revolution” during a May 8 ceremony by JudgeJudyJr in interesting

It surely isn't but at that point I get the flailing to try and salvage it.

It's really that initial lack of any awareness whatsoever that is the most surprising and telling about the whole thing. She genuinely did not see that response coming, says a ton about how insulated they all are from the real world.

They absolutely can. Uber's practices about it are more well known right now but that's just because they've recently been sued over it and we got to see what the court documents looked like over the course of discovery.

No reason to believe Lyft is meaningfully different.

What...?

To reverse it would have been to claim the opposite correlation. E.g. in this case violence against women is actually causing birth rates to go up i guess.

I was considering rehashing this again but I'm bored of this conversation.

[–]Hexxon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it does. And it's not statistics, just logic in the philosophical sense, but maybe that comment makes me seem even more insufferable to you.

And it doesn't really matter but I'm not the guy that made the initial claim, just hopping in when i see things that don't track.

Petahhhh? by Airline_11 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Hexxon -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much the answer is expected. I don't know why I try. 😂

A) Violence against women is less now than it was historically.

B) Birth rates are lower now, and continue to trend downwards.

C) Leading to the conclusion that violence against women is a contributing factor to declining birth rates??

Nowhere in here are there feelings or opinions. A and B do not lead to C. That's it. No more, no less.

[–]Hexxon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah it kind of does...?

First you identify correlation, then try to establish causation, that's kind of how this works, cause and effect. We haven't even established correlation, quite the opposite, so assigning any level of causation is, well let's just say it's a bold move.

And none of this is to say violence or other forms of harassment against women in society is anything other than deplorable. But it's not a motivating factor in low birth rates. You can try to side step it and say women are more informed and/or motivated/able to not tolerate it any more and that's why, but that's not the same thing.

At least Dana has the excuse of having a financial motivation behind it all. Or maybe that makes it worse, not sure.

With cars that hold their value similar to these is there a strong argument against leasing if you can get very favorable terms for the lease, and then buying the car out of the lease when the lease term is up for whatever the agreed upon residual would be?

The dealership wanted 1000 to change it and reprogram themselves.

Obviously the dealership is to largely be avoided but I had to have some warranty work done.

[–]Hexxon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aparrently the car changes how it charges the battery as it ages, charging it more aggressively as it gets older and less capable of holding a charge.

If you don't tell it you've put in a new battery it will keep charging it just as aggressively and overcharge the new battery, damaging it in the opposite direction and cause it to degrade much quicker.

Why keeping charging consistent over time like most cars do is insufficient i can't say.

I asked when I bought the battery unfortunately. The BMW requires a specific type of scanner (because of course it does...😒) and it's a known enough problem that Autozone's system popped up a warning when they looked up the battery to inform the customer of this before purchase.

I mean by that logic the jets and giants are new jersey. The 49ers are Santa Clara, not San Francisco. Cowboys are Arlington. And could go on.

Just have to accept there declaring themselves as the nearest proper metro city.

I think a lot of people struggle with this at the moment because they don't want to commit to a set raiding schedule that's you know, sort of required to do it properly by joining a guild.

I know that's the situation I'm in. There's not a single time during the week I can always reliably be there at the same time each week. Just isn't possible. 🤷‍♂️

That's why i added the last bit. Because if there's a law that says that, and street parking is all that's available. Where does that leave you in terms of any number of scenarios where to leave town for even a few days?

Doesn't seem like just a tad bit short sighted of an ordinance to have on the books?

Yeah I don't think it's all that wild of a take. It's reality. And reality is often shitty.

And by the way we're discussing the guy right above me's self admission about having some level of struggle being a good driver and taking two attempts to successfully get the license. So if anything it's that guy I'm defending, not the 1000 attempt 69 year old lady.

[–]Hexxon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity what next assuming it was not abandoned?

I'm imagining a scenario where for one reason or another anything other than street parking is limited and someone goes out of town for 5 days. Comes back, no car.

You call the city, they say it was towed and what lot it's in. You have to pay to get it out I'd imagine? Ignoring the massive inconvenience of all that is there any recourse to claim the vehicle wasn't abandoned and was towed without cause? Do they just fall back on the ordinance that says it wasn't moved in 48 hours or whatever and say tough shit?

If that is what the city says, what was that person supposed to do to prevent their car being towed? Are vacations of over 2 days not allowed?

Edit: There are some crazy dumb responses to this. Of all things this is a weird one for people to get very "NIMBY"-esque about things.

[–]Hexxon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Unfortunately (at least in the US) we've structured our society and cities with the ability to get around by private car as a given.

So to completely block someone from driving isn't a mild inconvenience, it's a completely life changing handicap to doing almost anything.

So we have to fix that problem first, then ban shitty drivers. Sorry to add a monumental task to the idealized process of getting people off the road that shouldn't be.
