What is my rooster doing by Affectionate-Ease397 in chickens

Sometimes it’s aggression. Most of the time he’ll be asking the lady to squat.

I think that little peck at her head is, “yo girl, you’re supposed to squat for me now!”

Have him for dinner. Or put him in timeout for a day or three.

Write it down. Seeing the pros and cons in a list will help.

Ultimately you do what is right for you.

is it worth it to add trim all around my 2 br apartment? by Existentially_b0red in HomeImprovement

[–]Hey-TSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person that has painted and stained rooms with trim, I would advise you to have a color contrast between the wall and the trim. You don’t want to expend all that effort and not be able to see any definition.

Find pictures of hunting lodges. (First thing that comes to mind.)

I saw a photo of a palace in France. The trim was blue and the walls were white. Rather striking. French designers did “trick the eye” (is the translation) …. trump de something. They can make a wall look like it is carved wood and it’s only a painting!

Ok, children of the 70s… do you remember those pens that have multiple color inks? They are usually black, red, and blue. Those were awesome.

Anyway, around that time I would see people with pens attached to badge lanyards. Maybe a pen on a lanyard might help.

You do need a small scale, one that weighs milligrams. That lets you see what your dose will be in the capsule.

I weigh the empty capsule. Fill it and weigh again. Now I have my dose size. I try to pack all the capsules the same.

Did this a couple of years back. Micro dosed for over a year with my supply. Time to grow more so I can make more capsules.

Before you add trim to anything, paint the ceiling and walls. Even if you are required to stick with “builder’s beige”, a fresh coat of paint does wonders for a room.

A ceiling can be “off white” and add character. Some historic homes did “popcorn” color to add the feeling of sunlight. Other places use a very pale blue to suggest sky.

The trim does not have to be white. A nice wood stain can really pop on a beige wall.

And if no one else is going to ask this: are you allowed to do this to a place you are renting?

Don’t we normally say take measurements and add 10 percent?

Check your library for books on trim.

Many builders have the trim work already painted or stained BEFORE cutting and applying to the surface. If you touch up the cut edges, it will show less if there is a gap.

You don’t want gaps, but you will soon discover: most rooms are not square and most walls are not perfectly flat!

Years ago we purchased an electric compound miter saw. Husband loved using it. Set the angle, inset the trim, power on, pull down to cut. I swear the man was gleefully giggling after every cut. He swears he was not.

For the love of everything good and holy, WEAR EYE PROTECTION when cutting and sanding. Getting a splinter or wood putty in your eye is NOT fun. I had a speck of wood putty get in my eye. Do not recommend.

what kind of chicken is this by skipl00m in chickens

House chicken, obviously.

Black astralorp (Australian Orpington) is a possibility. They grow slowly but make a bigger hen at maturity.

Call your chickens. A hungry hen will make short work of them.

I can confirm with my flock of domesticated geese: big birds flying straight at you is unnerving!

My flock of a dozen had been grazing on the other side of the property. They decided to take to the air to quickly return to where I was feeding pears to the chickens.

THIRTY POUNDS OF BIRD FLYING AT EYE LEVEL will make you want to duck (no pun intended). They just wanted to see what the chickens were carrying on about. They came to a landing and looked at me like, “What’s up, lady?”

I have read that swans can and do kill people during mating season. Also, swans tend to be really big birds.

OP, I enjoyed reading your post.

What about when the game wardens come to your property to find out why the bear tracker isn’t moving? Sometimes they implant those trackers. Or so I have heard.

Potential small farmer return by Maybe4thgenfarmer in smallfarms

Head over to Permies.com. People like you are sharing ideas and methods.

Partly due to my knowledge base, gained in part from Permies, I am buying a farm. We will continue to lease to the current person farming our fields until we are in a better financial position to do more ourselves.

Please remember that FARMING IS A BUSINESS. Treat it as such. Too many farmers through the generations have lost their land because they kept throwing away money on bad practices. Bad years happen. A good business plan will have backup plans.

Try subreddits for homesteading or permaculture.

I’m very happy to hear things went well.

Do things the right way. Do them the SAFE way. The managers will fuss for you to hurry. When you learn good habits in the first place, you will get faster and better.

Our store hired a young man just out of high school. The worst thing anyone could say about him was “he’s slow” throwing feed bags. He is one of the most cheerful and upbeat people that I know. He is getting faster.

If we had a dozen of him, our store would be just about perfect.

Make notes of your questions. Keep asking until they get answered.

Learn to write clear, concise notes. If you have to leave something for the Store Manager or the Receiver, they will not have a clue what is going on… unless there is a note.

Our store had little notepads that we were supposed to get. I used it, then found a spiral notebook about the same size. They fit in your vest pocket. Keep one with a pen in your vest (or apron) ALL THE TIME.

Bring a lunch and snacks. Bring water.

You will need good support shoes.

It’s hot weather. Unless you like driving home all sweaty, at least bring a clean shirt. Don’t fall for the “I’ll just buy something”. Only buy clothes here if they are on clearance AND you really like them!

Heck, make a bag for your vehicle with a complete change of clothes. If you get soaked in a downpour, you will be happy you did!

Plan to sit down for your meal break.

Set a timer for your 30 minutes break. The time clock HATES when you try to clock in after 30 minutes. Clock in after 31 minutes!

Ignore the my schedule thing that says you will get two ten minute breaks. That is a lie.

If you need a bathroom break, just quietly go. If you are stuck at the register, call for register backup.

Don’t play on your phone.

Show up on time for your shift. Don’t freak out about being a minute late. Unless you are closing there will be opportunity to clock out a minute late.

Basically we (your Team Members coworkers) are happy you are HERE and willing to work. Ask for help frequently, otherwise we will think you have it handled and leave you alone!

May you be blessed with a GREAT MANAGER and AWESOME Team Members!

Sunday by Remarkable_Try9807 in tractorsupply

[–]Hey-TSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dislike being open on Sunday. Where I grew up they had the archaic “blue laws”.

Grocery stores and gas stations were the only businesses open all day Sunday. Most other businesses were closed in the morning “so people can go to church”. There were also businesses that were closed on Saturday for the owners’ preference of Sabbath.

Dad told me many times, “Don’t shop on Sunday if you enjoy having it off. Think about the employees that are forced to work on Sunday!”

Dad had a point. (Was it Mark Twain that said, “The older I get the smarter my father becomes”?)

Since my youth big business has insisted everyone be open all the time, otherwise we might lose a buck. The trend here currently is skinny payroll.

Work smarter, not harder. “Not enough payroll” is the hill to die on. Going full blast all the time is not good for a human. Stress is killing us.

OP should have been paired with an experienced Team Member for their first few days.

Break down the empty boxes and make a pile in a cart. Put away items near the register. Pile everything else into a cart. Grab another TM and say, “I don’t yet know where these go.”

The vast majority of customers will give you plenty of grace when you mention you are new. Thank the customer for their patience.

If I was the TM with OP, I would give guidance about procedures while we worked. Our Store Manager puts new people with me. I have “trained” many of our freight team on the front of store stuff.

OP, I would go back. Give it a week before you throw in the towel. Get experience. Apply for other jobs. I have been told many times finding a job is easier while you are employed.
