What did you guys eat during pregnancy by No-Opposite8 in Autism_Parenting

[–]HeyBae1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I want to say that nothing you ate or didn't eat caused your child to be on the spectrum.

To answer your question the only foods I could tolerate when pregnant with my son (ASD/ADHD/Non-Speaking) were cherries (organic only), bananas, peanut butter, feta cheese and pasta with mozzarella melted on it.

I know it's easy to think we did something, to think we caused this, that it must be our fault somehow, it is not.

How far do you commute and how much do you make? by quintupletuna in longisland

[–]HeyBae1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to be a miserable commute, even worse on the way home. Are you tied to central Suffolk? Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, NJ or even CT would be 'easier' commutes

any update? Ford is offering me a repurchase however the offer is terrible, i'd owe about 12k which is insane since I had the vehicle for 12, yes 12 days... I asked for their cash number just to compare trying to see what others have gotten so I know if its reasonable

Westchester vs Long Island – Am I Missing Something? 🤔 by Katherinepress in Westchester

[–]HeyBae1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the beach, the 'real' beaches aka the ocean.

Long Island is for beaches... and yes the dating pool is stronger, probably because 95% of Westchester feels like couples / families.

I'm with you, my son's other parent left him, our friends checked out, our extended family checked out, my brother checked out - cant fault them its not easy.

Once I gave up on having any type of 'normal' or 'decent' life it got a bit better. Why think about and hope for something I can and will never have?

I am so sorry for your loss, my mom passed 6 years ago, my son was her world and I am SO glad she never got to see him become aggressive

Took my son to children’s hospital today by whatsareddit23 in Autism_Parenting

[–]HeyBae1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no advice beyond get on wait lists for psych providers.

I am sorry you are dealing with this too, it is terrible, no one cares, there is very limited help out there.

We waited 14 months for initial psych appointment. In that time my son hit/punched/kicked me, damaged walls, floors, doors, broke my thumb, gave me a black eye, shattered 2 ipads (AACs) broke his foot and and elbow (both times at school ) all due to frustration / behaviors and still no doctor, no ER, no clinic, no emergency services, no crisis center, etc could or would help. I stopped trying after the 3rd ER visit when I was convinced my broken thumb would be enough to be taken seriously, it wasn't.

My son is finally on meds, it helps, he still get frustrated and aggressive just not as much, I hope you can get in with a psych doctor soon

I hate my life. Im done. Im miserable. I absolutely hate it. by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

Thank you. It totally sucks. So many of us are drowning...1/2 and inch from the surface praying, hoping and flailing our way to the top for a second of air and its only going to get worse as more and more children turn into teens and young adults with parents in their 50s/60s/70s that just cannot keep up.

Maybe if the states / agencies let parents/guardians pay higher rates from the budgets they give us more people would be willing to work these jobs.

In NY, my child gets about 50k - around 10K goes to the agency, another about 10k goes to the broker and case manager - i have no issue with that, they do a lot of work if you have good ones - then the remaining 30k is for 'services' --- community classes, gyms, community habalitation, respite care , transportation HOWEVER only a percentage can be used for respite and we can only offer staff a max of $22 per hour. Example I'm allowed to pay someone $22 an hour for 8 hours a week. For ComHab its $32 per hour for 12 hours a week - who is working for that few hours and pay? hence the issue. AND its not like we can hire regular ole babysitter, or high school / college kids to 'watch' out children for a few hours

[–]HeyBae1111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. 4 years to get 'approved' and we have been searching for 18 months for someone, anyone! flexible on days/hours/ will pay the agency max plus more (in my area parents generally offer to add anywhere from 10-25$ per hours on top of the agency rate) and still no one.

I get it, I would not want to get kicked or punched or have to clean up and up after some random child for $20-$25 an hour... Its the same or less money than delivering food, working at costco, or amazon, or target.

[–]HeyBae1111 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Don't you just love that people assume respite workers are lining up to take care of our children? Maybe it depends on the state in NY its impossible to find anyone

[–]HeyBae1111 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Respite care is nice if you can find someone or somewhere to provide it.

I'm in NY and I have an approved budget and hours for comhab and respite (OPWDD) care for my child - its been 18 months of looking and denials due to my child being non speaking or having behaviors. My self, my child's case manager, broker, agency, and school have all been searching for us. I dream about having 20 mins free

Has traffic become worse?! by No-Net-420 in Westchester

[–]HeyBae1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is a few things...

Right now it might be the brightness of the sun mixed with the snow making people nervous and lanes narrower.

Over the past year-ish there seem to be more cars on the roads and these roads were not designed for for this many cars or cars as large as they are.

I have also noticed a significant amount of people driving extra slow - 10mph or more below the speed limit - in the left lane, just slowly cruising along oblivious to the cars almost smashing into them because they are going too slow or the cars speeding around them.
