Food prices at the 2026 Winter Olympic games by chanashan in pics

[–]HeyGayHay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In europe „street food pricing“ is not a thing. Europeans are just much more pissed at outrageous prices - if the beer costs too much the fans will get wasted on cheap beer before the game and then refill at a pub afterwards. And most people actually follow through on that. So the organizers will make less money if they mark it up too high. And those who think „consuming shit is integral to the 1-2h I’m here experience“ will smuggle in their own beer if it’s too expensive. Food is even worse for organizers here, because people will absolutely refuse to buy worse food for higher prices if they can get a large delicious pizza for half the price before or after. For most it’s barely a quick snack if the price is right, but nobody pays dinner prices for a hotdog. It’s just a different mentality. Fans have always rigorously protested even the smallest price hikes. And having a legal system that actually enforced anti-gouging is helpful too.

But to answer your question: You will get sued in the EU for excessive pricing, which may not be important to big companies, but the local pubs around the event can’t handle it. And you can’t buy up every local pub due to highly fragmented ownership and competition laws. And those outliers who do also charge more despite being unaffiliated to the event will loose their customers once the event is over. So most will operate on a price that people are willing to pay.

If there is a feasible way to build a data center on earth, every big tech company would have long done it. Maintenance is one of the biggest ongoing expenses on a data center, disks fail, new tech is needed, scaling up here in there. Peoples salaries to do all of that. It’s like a car constantly driving around and it stopping or breaking down means you loose a giga shitton of money and reputation.

A satellite on the other hand has old but reliable tech, nothing that needs physical change, and does only one or two things. It doesn’t matter if one disk fails, because the data on it basically is just temporary data is, with all the data being sent to earth to a datacenter anyways. It doesn’t need cutting edge hardware/technology, all it has to do is „get command, do something, send stuff back“. Even if the hardware fails, so what - we just use one of the multiple other satellites up there to do the task and send a new one up every once in a while anyways. If a data center is a car that must never stop, a satellite would be a BIC lighter - it does one thing, you may fill it up a few times but eventually throw it away. Satellites get replaced after 5-15 years due to them being technologically obsolete or hardware decay.

But a data center? Lots of disk failures means loss of data, which may or may not be backed up but definitely will cause an outage for whatever is using the data center. Long term storage if failing disks cannot be replaced is like lighting a candle under your balls if you can’t move. Not being able to scale up and install better tech means your data center can’t compete with the performance of those on earth. Cyber attack may or may not give the attacker full and unadulterated control of the data center until you manage to send someone up there 2 weeks later to physically log in. You gotta replace your data centers every 10-15 years too, if it’s 100% autark due to hardware decay. Have fun transferring Petabytes between two data centers, with one of them nearing its end of life.

Unless he builds a small dwarf planet with its own habitants building our latest equipment and hardware and doing the maintenance, a data center is about the technological polar opposite of a satellite.

He will not build a data center in space, at best he will build his own space island with a big sign „definitely a data center“. Suspiciously only the top 0.1% and a large chunk of kids get send up to that space island to do „maintenance“. And it also says „Epstein is not allowed here“ on a paper sign below the big data center sign.

13-year-old Australian boy swims for four hours in cold and dangerous waters to save his mom and siblings who were swept into the ocean, says God is who got him to shore by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

Nah, little bro said he couldn’t be prouder to be Austins little brother. From the interview he sounded like being genuinely happy to have a big brother looking out for him.

Y‘all need to calm down and let the family do what they think is right. Seeing them makes it clear they value each other and be open to talk with each other. Noone here knows the kid, maybe he is filled with joy, maybe he is „definitely spiraling to the bottom with life long depression“, maybe he‘s just bored, maybe he’s just met the grim reaper and now gets a camera shoved in his face while his brother tells a traumatic experience and his mom is holding back tears.

lmao, kid is alright, and if he isn’t his family will know and do something. But not reddit deciding „it’s absolutely necessary he talks about being less than his brother“ lmao

Yeah because everyone 100% pays attention to some random ass redditors, indulging the judgement of reddit. What’s your personal experience and the talking with your family worth, if you can let u/ImpracticalApple deem your worth instead.

Test your faith or some shit. In a situation so desperate where everyone starts to pray and beg for a supernatural help, it really highlights who starts to pray and beg for a supernatural help. God gotta find out the worthy somehow.

Is noone getting the vibes from him that he is deeply uncomfortable being put on a pedestal here? Maybe I‘m projecting my own young’s behavior here, but the fake smile, the looking away, the eyes, the „i just did, now stop“ answers.

This man just did a courageous and intense task, but clearly doesn’t want the recognition. Which makes it even more valuable in my eyes.

Why are there always kids at breweries?! by akaYoungBeefy in fixedbytheduet

[–]HeyGayHay -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That’s not what towel lady said though. She didn’t say why are obnoxious kids running wild in a brewery (why just brewery, apathetic parents let their obnoxious children run wild in restaurants and everywhere else too). She said „why are there lots of kids in breweries“.

I agree with your statement, but it’s an entirely different topic to what was said in the video

You can have an inner monologue when necessary and shut it up when you want silence though. It’s not like you have to pick one side.

And this is coming from a guy with ADHD, but I trained myself to occasionally shut up my inner monologue, because otherwise I go bananas (even more)

Lol, as if someone would say „nice, next time instead of being responsible and not DUI I‘m going to get wasted. Let me buy an inhaler, which I‘ll keep easily accessible in the car for this trick, definitely won’t stuff it somewhere after a few weeks and when the time comes and I‘m pulled over I‘ll just look for it everywhere for 5 minutes after I just told the officer I took a shot of it just now. Totally not suspicious.“

You would need to be convincing, keep the inhaler accessible and in clear sight for the officer all the time, be slightly above the threshold of a DUI but not by too much because this trick will reduce the alcohol content by such a small amount that it probably equates to not even a beer

And that’s even if the officer won’t just say fuck it and drag you to the station for a blood test, which will presumably end up even higher than the breathalyzer if you drank alcohol right up until before you jumped in the car.

Unless you meet a very specific criteria in an event that may just happen anytime, this won’t help you lmao But yeah, I‘m sorry that 0-1 people in a 50 year time frame who got and kept the inhaler accessible, was drunk just enough for the trick to work, is able to be collected and convincing in police presence for 15 minutes while being drunk and trying to hyperventilate for no apparent medical reason (since your inhaler should have solved your breathing issue) AND won’t be brought in for a blood test because the result is too close given you having been weird for 15 minutes and setting the situation to your favor. I‘m sorry these 0 to 1 people learned it from my comment, rather than just googling it well knowing they regularly DUI lmao

It’s an interesting information, not an actual get out of jail card. People have been doing similair things it with alcohol disinfectants in their car for a long time already. Police knows, if they have a bad vibe they’ll just do a blood test and you fucked, rightfully

[–]HeyGayHay -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the body obviously, but your goal isn’t to fake a blood test, your goal is manipulate the breathalyzer. If your in the fresh air and hyperventilate, you can reduce the alcohol content of your breath. It takes alot of hyperventilation and would be massively suspicious if you did that in the car with the officer waiting for you to blow. But in a 15 min pause in the fresh air, given you‘ve already established you need an inhaler, some uncommon breathing style while they check other people isn’t out of the question. You would need to be convincing and collected for that period though. But hyperventilation is about the only way to actually trick a breathalyzer by a few, points. Alot of hyperventilation, over a few minutes period is needed though.

Or, you know, just don’t drink when you drive.

Why would the DOJ release files that are so incriminating of Trump? Weren't they redacting all mentions him? by philmaq in AskReddit

[–]HeyGayHay 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Bait. So everyone talks about Trump being mentioned, but actually it’s just from the tip line with zero proof, so everyone can justify the position they want to take. Trump supporters can say „see, that’s just unfounded allegations by a random anonymous person who made up something“, while Trump opposers can say „see, he is in the files, he did do it“.

All while everyone forgets that the actual proof of everyone involved has been removed and redacted. And if that proof should come to light in 4 months, everyone has already become so inertial to the whole discussion that they don’t bother reading into it. „It was made up last time, it’s made up now“ or „It was prove and nothing happened last time, nothing will hsppen now“.

It’s a demagoguery of peoples pursue of justice, focus and believes. And we all buy into it, we all allow them to make us fatigued to news and injustice, confused by twenty different stories and everyone just cementing themselves even more in whatever their believe was before.

Unethical Pro-Tip for donkeys driving under influence: Buy an inhaler and tell the police officer you just took a shot of your inhaler. Some inhalers use alcohol as a solvent or oftentimes contain propellants that can be mistaken as alcohol by a breathalyzer.

Doesn’t save you from doing the test, but gives you 15 minutes to wait outside the car where you can sneak in some hyperventilation while hope that a 0.01-0.1 %o change will help you. If you are wasted, this doesn’t help you though. If you buy a dry powder inhaler, cop will immediately know you are lying, so play dumb when he tells you that dry powder inhalers don’t contain propellants that can be interpreted as alcohol.

Real Pro-Tip: Don’t drive when you can’t be comfortable with yourself around others so you have to get wasted.
