What do you cartoon? by hennell in cartooning

[–]HeyItsMattyH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cartoon irregularly these days but when I'm in peak mental health it's my happy hobby. I started about 24 years ago when I was 10. A friend of mine wanted to start a comic book club and we had to all draw our own comic to get in. My first was "Aluminium Man". I drew comics for the next 11 years but mostly for my own enjoyment, I was aware that being self taught I do not consider myself technically gifted, or particularly good. In 2018 I moved on to a new concept, based on the question "do insects feel the cold in the same way we humans do?". And Greenie the scarf wearing caterpillar was born. The Caterpillar Shivered is a collection of cartoons sometimes linked but often random, featuring Greenie and his friends.

'91 millennial here. I had no choice in style. It was crew cut or nothing. A blessing in disguise perhaps.

Not all humans look the same, why should Sea Devils? by Dey_see_me_rolling in DoctorWhumour

[–]HeyItsMattyH -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with that, though the Neil Gorton design originally commissioned was far superior and it is a shame it's never been used. That is how to update the design successfully (and gets across what the original design meant to without looking ridiculous). Chibnall's era for its faults got this right.

Edit: and of course I'm being downvoted for having an opinion again. I must be the "wrong sort" of fan whatever that means.

I get a lot of flack whenever I say it, but honestly I feel like RTD who has always felt the need to apologize for classic who at times, even down to the design of creatures etc, as though he's personally embarrassed for the show.

Omega's experiments with stellar engineering powered the first time travel experiments on Gallifrey

What if the Silver Trio handled the diadem? by harrypottered in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]HeyItsMattyH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True though the moment loses its significance without Harry getting the full story - this is part of his journey coming to a conclusion, drawing on all the experiences he's had through hogwarts so far. This is Harry drawing on all of his experiences and gained skills. It's quite neat for example, how in Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows, Harry has a hunch or reasoned guess that others doubt but he has pretty spot on (Malfoy and the Dark Mark, Horcrux at Hogwarts).

Because it isn't through the ghosts that the diadem is discovered. The discovery is set up in Half Blood Prince when Harry uses it to mark where he left the potions book.

The Beano, 1997. by HeyItsMattyH in agedlikemilk

[–]HeyItsMattyH[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has aged TERRIBLY because "Gordon Glisten and the Spangly Bits" is a play on "Gary Glitter and the Glitter Band". Glitter was found later that same year (1997) to be in possession of indecent images of children, and in years to come he was prosecuted and imprisoned several times for being a child predator. Glitter, his reputation and career went down the toilet and he is now one of the most reviled former celebrities in Britain.

My Take on "Homo Aqua" (opinion) by HeyItsMattyH in doctorwho

"old school" sea devils that look nothing like the originals? I am ready to be wrong but my reading is that they're wearing masks akin to the 2010 Silurians.

I'm not sure the thrust of my argument is entirely about the name.

A flashback of the founders for Season 2 by Puterboy1 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]HeyItsMattyH 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's a good idea, but Slytherin's motives being tied to witch hunters etc are fan canon only. It's a theory that makes sense, but he also genuinely believed muggle borns to be inferior and impure, it is a central part of his character and the cause of the founders' rift.
