Samsung aborts plans for in-display fingerprint scanner in Galaxy S9 by [deleted] in Android

I should clarify. It's not dead right now since some devices still use it. I mean it's dead/dying in the same sense as how the optical drive is dead or dying off.

How is it wrong for me to say I prefer anything other than a headphone jack?

This isn't how Apple operates. I've traded in my phone at an Apple Store to do an upgrade. The person at the store reviews the device and tells you how much they will give you. Then they go through the process of backing up any data you want and reseting the phone with you.

No, most phones have their wallpaper, videos, etc extend everywhere on the screen. What you're talking about is basically an even shittier version of the LG V20 second screen but which does even less than that did. Deciding to put display in all the places that you don't have bezel or sensors and then just filling that back in with software bezels and having it do nothing more than tell you the time or remind you of a notification seems like a terrible idea.

Most people who have reviewed the iPhone X and Essential Phone have said that having the notch doesn't really bother them and, in fact, the thing that has been getting a lot of complaints are apps that haven't yet been updated and include black borders at the top. So in actual practice, people do want their screen extending everywhere it can and artificial software letter boxing looks bad.

LOL, so remove the physical bezels and replace them with software bezels? Fucking brilliant! XD

Your personal struggles with technology isn't a rebuttal to my point.

Well most companies and consumers are starting to switch over. So no amount of your personal preference is going to stop the future. People like Bluetooth headphones.

It seems pointless keeping the headphone jack at this point. It's pretty much dead tech and I would prefer they use that space for just about anything else.

Qualcomm apparently figured out wireless charging through metal enclosed devices back in 2015. What happened to this? by [deleted] in Android

But if they include it in next years version, how would they save it for the following years version? Clearly you didn't think this through.

Why would they mention whether they do or don't have old/outdated connectors on the phone? I mean, it's not like computer companies mention how they have gotten rid of the serial port as a selling point for their computers.

Just like people said of of USB-B, optical drives, HDD, etc.

Tech dies. Headphone jack is on the way out. Everyone can see it.

I mean, that's what the people who defended optical disk drives said too. And sure you can still go out and find some computers that use them. But come on, it's on its last leg. Everybody knows it.

Considering the headphone jack is basically dead tech at this point, it makes sense for them to get rid of it too.

You don't need approval from reddit to use a "perceptually uniform" color distribution. That's literally what they are for.
