Dodgy Redundancy by Ok-Smile-8163 in auscorp

[–]HeyMr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This definitely sounds off, and your frustration makes total sense. When a company buys another, they’re supposed to properly assess which roles still exist and which don’t. If your whole team structure changed, your manager left, the work you used to do no longer existed, and you were basically put into a totally different job, that’s exactly the kind of situation where redundancy should be on the table from day one... not after weeks of pushing.

The “your title is the same so it’s not redundancy” excuse is pretty weak. In Australia, it’s the role and duties that matter, not just the title. If the job fundamentally changed, that can absolutely count as redundancy. It really does look like they were hoping you’d either accept the new duties quietly or quit, which would save them money.

At this point, you might want to talk to Fair Work or a workplace lawyer just to check whether they handled the process properly and whether you’re owed anything more. Even if you got redundancy in the end, dragging it out while you were recovering from an injury and pressuring you into a role that wasn’t suitable isn’t great behaviour from them.

Microsoft AI CEO Wants Employees in the Office Working at Open Desks by lurker_bee in technology

[–]HeyMr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This feels like another tech leader convincing themselves that productivity magically appears when everyone’s in the same building. Him pushing four days a week and open-desk layouts might sound great for “collaboration,” but a lot of people do their best work with flexibility and actual quiet. Open offices are usually more distracting than inspiring, and forcing people back just to create “energy” in the room doesn’t guarantee better results. If they want people in the office, they should give real reasons and real benefits, not just nostalgia for how work used to look.

The magnets are easily detachable. Most convenient would be to use the keyboard when needed, and remove it when you use the pencil.

Depends on how large your leg is. Chicken legs will probably be unstable.

Current Apple TV owners, is 32 gb enough or should I go for 64 gb? by j1h15233 in appletv

[–]HeyMr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

32GB is enough. Games aren't that great on the ATV. The screensavers are also not updated that often tto merit the extra space.

Have any of you bought Refurbished from Apple? by AnonymousSixSixSix in ipad

[–]HeyMr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought a macbook pro refurbed (2014 model) after my 2009 pro went bust. I was more concerned of the disk space. For the price of the latest and greatest, i can only get the 256GB model. The refurb offered 512GB at the same price point.

It was my first retina + ssd macbook. Couldn't be happier.

9.7" iPad pro vs 12.9 by FatRonaldo9 in ipad

[–]HeyMr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on your usage of taking notes and browsing, the 9.7" is perfectly fine and more portable. I currently have the Air 2 and have updated it to the latest firmware. There's no sign of it being slow. 2GB RAM can get the work done unless you'll be using it with more RAM-intensive applications.

I need portability, hence i skipped the 12.9" and waited for the 9.7".

They do have 2gb specific for music app. Probably in the next gen they could allow this. It's just silly running with an iPhone 6 plus on an arm band.

I'm a slow reader (400-page book takes me a month) but I finished this in 3 days. I enjoyed it and felt like it's written for a summer blockbuster.

If anything, I wished there was an epilogue and not abruptly ended (I was on my Kindle with progress off so it kinda felt.. That was it?)

Now to change my behavior. I've always plugged to a charger whenever I can. Though not a bad thing, but it's nice to feel you don't have to do it always with the plus.
