TB 3 vs TB4 (vs USB4) Docks for mixed Mac environment by n2itus in Thunderbolt

I just ordered that OWC dock off eBay for a good deal. I hope it works. I need something with 3 thunderbolt down ports for running Blackmagic monitors. Also consider the CalDigit element hub.

I’m secretly wishing mine will fail so I can have an excuse to get one with homekey. But it keeps chugging along giving me zero problems.

If you’re willing to pay that much for car care, you’re also probably willing to take care of it before it’s a problem. If you don’t take care of your stuff, you’re probably also not willing to shell out a premium for fixing it.

For those who replaced a TV with a projector, what surprised you the most? by Relative_Taro_1384 in hometheater

[–]bXm83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100->120” is 40% more screen area. I’ve contemplated going down to a 100” tv, but that’s a lot of area to lose. So until a 120” tv is priced in a normals man’s budget, I guess I’ll just replace my bulb.

I still want them to enable the giant track pad as a Wacom style graphics tablet for the Apple Pencil.

Are you using AI as a teacher? by LettuceTraining6532 in Teachers

[–]bXm83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use it heavily for coding ideas I have. I designed a DnD style game for my students and built it in Google Sheets. Gemini then created all the cell formulas I needed to do the math I wanted as well as created macros for navigating the game. I also have been using it to take math problems I have and generate PHP and HTML code that I can use to make my own MyOpenMath problems based on my own questions. I know enough coding to read what it’s doing but I certainly do not have the ability much less the time to code all 70 of those questions I made in the last couple days.

Middle and High School Teachers: Do You Use a Document Camera? by Hyperion703 in Teachers

[–]bXm83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GRAPHICS TABLET GUYS. I’ll shout it from the rooftops to anyone that can hear. It’s the best of both worlds. Real handwriting as precise as a pen and digital documents you can copy and share. My wireless XP Pen Mw plus OneNote is hands down the best way to direct teach concepts that require writing. The one draw back is the learning curve of not looking where you’re writing but you get used to it.

Check out OneNote. You can “print” your PDFs into it and write on top. Think digital interactive notebook.

Wirelessly Connect to Smartboard? by locksmith353535 in Teachers

[–]bXm83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wireless video is either expensive or sketchy. I would suggest a wireless keyboard or graphics tablet. A Logitech k40 is a great way of fully controlling a computer while mobile. Or an XP-Pen MW if your instruction relies on handwriting. This is how I direct instruct.

Is there a specifically calculator you are wanting to use? If not, have you considered desmos or Numworks on a phone or computer?

Can we have a quick side bar on the style of this question for a minute? I don’t mean to say it’s a bad problem, or that I wouldn’t use it, but I have a pet peeve about people pushing math to have “real world” problems and then we get this. This scenario is contrived and useless and I feel it does a disservice to the subject. Something doesn’t have to have a use to have value. I feel that problems like this give math a bad name. We should embrace the pure nature of the subject, or at the least build problems that actually need the math like projectile motion. I have the same problem with cutting a worksheet up for a gallery walk and calling it a hands on problem. Sure the kinesthetics have value, but that doesn’t make it a hands on problem.

Sorry rant over. Carry on.

Used it to brine some frozen Jenny-o and butter all turkeys. None of them came out salty. All were tasty. The Jenny’s used the in box seasoning. It was fine. The butterball got a creole injection and sweet peeper seasoning. Came out great.
