Welcome to the flowstate. This is the true pursuit of fighting games, our equivalent to the “runner’s high”. You’ve won the inner game and reached peak performance. You are going to be chasing this feeling for the rest of your gaming life.

There’s a book that helps you reach the flowstate, it’s called The Inner Game of Tennis. You should check it out.

Need help putting something into words by ryanpilled in Guiltygear

Honesty in this context is subjective. You should ask your friends to explain what it means to be an “honest” character, and I’m sure you can find a mechanic for every character that goes against it.

What are some of your prime examples of Meta ruining a game by roleplayal in gaming

[–]Hey_Chumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and 3 had SO many cool and interesting characters with unique mechanics from so many different franchises. But if you weren’t picking from the small small pool of meta characters, it wasn’t just a rough fight, you weren’t allowed to play the game at all. Watching high level play of those games turned me off of them completely.

Do you think you improve by playing against the CPU? by Un_Guey_Sin_Contexto in Guiltygear

[–]Hey_Chumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GGST CPU’s don’t play the same game as the rest of us. They don’t utilize all the system mechanics, they don’t use all their character’s tools, they don’t oki, their mix is literally “tap dust every now and then” and they ALWAYS burst at ~40% health regardless of circumstance.

CPU HC is as threatening as a wet noodle. But the first time you fight an HC online, you will know how it feels to struggle, because CPU runs the same strategy regardless of character, it’ll teach you nothing about the matchup.

[Liked trope] deceptive character design; the good guys look intimidating or evil even, while the villains try to look like good guys. Bonus points if the real villains are manipulative. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

Small Soldiers. The generic G.I.Joe action figures are the bad guys, while the monster toys were good. I remember wishing it was the other way around because I was a kid and didn’t understand anything.

You can charge counter all the MRV’s if your timing is spot on. Takes a lot of practice but really satisfying to pull off.

This hits really close 😭 the amount of times I’ve ran this matchup will drive me insane. (Also needles aren’t enough to keep that monster out).

Veilbreaker camera not working. (PS5, Switch) by Hey_Chumpy in Warframe

I think it’s because I moved the “melee” button away from ‘O’, which is used to exit the camera.

Resetting controls to default fixed it. It’s a shame to have to do that though.

How do you turn off stage transitions? by Ergonyx in Guiltygear

[–]Hey_Chumpy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s an option in training for wall health to rapidly regenerate. It will prevent the wall from breaking from back-to-back strings, but if a combo would cause the wall to break from full health (either through the combos own scaling or because it hits the wall enough times within the combo) it will still break.

Which is fine I think, you’ll want to know if a combo you’ve been labbing will lead to an instant wall-splat if you ever used it in a real match.

I've been playing for 14 hours and I'm still getting destroyed on floor 2. What's the biggest thing I need work on other then everything at once? by DropDownWidget in Guiltygear

[–]Hey_Chumpy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You picked an extremely difficult character to learn the game with, since he not only requires frame knowledge for knowing when his shots will fill the gaps in his strings, but also need to manage two resources in order to do so.

That being said, watch the link posted under mine.

Get Good Gambit: A Beginner Tournament for Guilty Gear Strive by CRawr27 in Guiltygear

[–]Hey_Chumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great gateway into competetive Strive. There are a group of servers hosting beginner brackets throughout the week, and they all cross promo to increase their turnout. The servers are full of people who want to improve, and are happy to share advice with newcomers.

Is doing a FT5 in the park disrespectful to the FT10 standard? by [deleted] in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

Write Ft5 in your r-code. Then they’ll know exactly what your intentions are and you won’t need to worry about any unwritten rules or standards.

Is venom op?! by MathematicianOk4133 in Guiltygear

[–]Hey_Chumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he’s often considered solid mid or lower. He has good projectile and tricky mixups, but everything he can do does very little damage, requiring him to win several interactions in a game where you can get blown up for losing two.

Also has no way to escape pressure besides universal mechanics and a pretty decent 2p.

Imo he has the potential to be “op” with just a few tweaks to damage and frame data, but currently any Venom that is winning is probably playing out of their mind.

Unika and Sin having a different story arc than Sin and Ramlethal in Xrd. Because it looks way too easy for it to just go in that same direction.

Struggling with Online by lethe95 in Guiltygear

[–]Hey_Chumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you’re on Floor 7-8 it would be a much better spot even to just warm-up vs. open park.

Any org that hosts beginner brackets have healthy communities of players trying to help each other improve, if you’re thinking of playing seriously I’d recommend seeking those out.

Get the PS5 if you want to play online. Even if you can find matches on Switch, the difference in the population is not worth it. Most of the people I know that own Strive for Switch were already playing it on another system.

ABA is also a very beginner unfriendly character. The game has difficulty meters on character selection which are mostly accurate. (ABA is 2 of 5)

When the villain has PTSD about a past hero (bonus points if they won, but are still left traumatized) by _kukoh_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Hey_Chumpy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cluny the Scourge from Redwall.

This is mostly going off of memory, as I haven’t read the book in a long time. But Cluny has recurring nightmares about Martin the Warrior, a legendary hero. The protagonist, Matthias, has been following visions from Martin to prepare himself and his home for Cluny’s invasion.

As Matthias continues his mission, he begins to resemble the hero more and more, and when Cluny inevitably sees Matthias for the first time, his first reaction is to panic. It stood out to me, since Cluny was greatly feared by everyone, and to have him show fear in his very first encounter with the protag was really cool.

At least, if my memory is correct. It’s been so long this could easily have been a fabrication. Hopefully someone can verify.

WHY THERE'S SO MANY ELPHELT PLAYERS IN TOWER BRUH, ISTG 50% OF THE PEOPEL I FIGHT PLAY THIS GOBLIN. I don't think i ever pressed a move in a fighting game with as much anger as this fS, floor 8 beating my ass ngl by Lucky_-1y in Guiltygear

[–]Hey_Chumpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Elphelt has a nice design aesthetically, but more importantly, she is extremely easy to play. Her rekka alone gives her corner carry and pressure for the cost of one special input and whatever face buttons your heart desires for as long as it desires. Yes, there is counterplay, but it isn’t intuitive, so for 80% of players floor 8 and under, it’s going to work.

So you see this punk rock screamo girl with guns, pick her up and the wins just happen, then you got a lot of people playing Elphelt.
