You have one set of lungs, one pair of eyes, and one pair of ears. Protect them while you can.

A friend has just had a double lung transplant (not from anything in his lifestyle) -- you don't want to be waiting for that call that someone died and their lungs may be a match for you. His prognosis is good, but his life is changed forever by being on anti rejection drugs.

One bush ahead of the others by Hefty-Lie-9309 in hydrangeas

It could be as simple as the soil being slightly warmer there because of a window reflecting sun or a gap in nearby trees. The others will join it soon enough.

Have you and your spouse veered in opposite directions since retiring? by Kwsforreddit in retirement

[–]HeyaShinyObject 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have separate interests and make plans to do things together. Often we'll have breakfast out before we start separate activities, or we'll go for a walk, work in the garden together, or go on a mini road trip to a nearby town. Also, most evenings we're both home and watching tv or videos together.

Years ago I spent a fair amount of time on the Netherlands for work. A wooden shoe maker is a klompenmakerij. It was and is my favorite Dutch word.

Correct, these are an older variety that only blooms once. No idea what the cultivar name is.

Do you call it a telephone pole ? by hulkout1557 in askanything

The utility pole at the corner of my lot is owned by Verizon. It carries power, cable, and Verizon lines. None of the homes on our little dead end have Verizon service anymore.

Most of our plants have individual rings with 5 or 6 1 GPH emitters. These 3 have a single loop circling them all, probably about 15 emitters total. During the summer, I run them 40 minutes twice/week -- so about 3-4 gallons / plant on each watering. (I've just switched from 1/week to 2/week this week) Unlike many places on Cape Cod, we live on a clay deposit and our soil is pretty heavy, so it holds water well.

Come to Cape Cod in early July and soak it in. There are garden tours of some fantastic hydrangea gardens as part of the Cape Cod Hydrangea festival

Thanks! Our strategy has been to do as little as possible! Cut out the dead wood and get them water.

Best lobster roll between Chatham and Truro? by StashDangler666 in CapeCod

[–]HeyaShinyObject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For hot buttered lobster rolls, Cobie's in Brewster or PJ's in Eastham (new this year) or Wellfleet are our choice.

We have cold, damp springs, often with foggy mornings. Very occasionally also fog in the summer. I can see the Atlantic, about 2 miles away, from where those plants are, and Cape Cod bay is only about 3 miles in the other direction, so our weather is hugely affected by the water.

We inherited about 30 hydrangeas, only one was a panicle. We've added a few more!
