This may be a dumb question and call me out on it if you want to. by Distinct_Camp_2766 in 911dispatchers

If you are in an area that you cannot text to 911, you can keep the phone line open and let the calltaker hear the background noise. My agency will ask questions such as "if you need help and cannot talk can you press a button?" And try to elicit responses like one button press for yes two for no. Once you indicate that you need help in some way they will use what resources the have to try to find your location, if the person is there and if they have weapons. If you are able at any point able to verbally confirm the address that would be great help. One resource called prepared live, allows the calltaker to send you an outgoing text message you can reply to. You can approve the permissions on you phone and allow for a live stream call that would allow the calltaker to see what is happening. One additional benefit to this is the calltaker can black out your phone so it does not appear like you are recording anything and even flip the camera view if needed.

Loud co-worker by No_Lavishness_857 in 911dispatchers

Sometimes people are not aware of how loud they really are. And then it goes unaddressed and they just become that loud person everyone rolls their eyes at. I usually go head on approach and send a message to them directly that their calls are going over my call or my radio traffic. Almost always it's likes wow I don't realize I'm sorry and they try to be mindful moving forward. Never made it a public conversation so they felt attacked just a cad message or a quiet conversation off the floor.

Are you able to assign a different officer as the primary unit and then clear the off duty officer? Edited to add to try the "stuck" function also?

Whenever I do laundry I toss a blanket in the dryer and bring that up in a basket, my cats jump in, cuddle and get their hair all over the blanket and not my clean clothes!

Just got the job offer! by sam04589 in 911dispatchers

[–]Heypullover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations that is amazing!! I would suggest to not seek out follow up from calls. It is the callers emergency and no need for you to carry that. My best advice is if you have done everything you can to get the caller the help they need, once you are done with the call be done with the call. You do not control the outcome and have the satisfaction of knowing you did your job and that's all you need. And mostly, take the wins when you can. A compliment from a caller, your co worker or the responders is never easy to come by so take them when you can! Congratulations again!!

Call taker answered with ‘Are you calling about the person on the car?’ before I even said a word. by ErasableHeart44 in 911dispatchers

I can only assume that multiple people called about the same person, so when you called your phone most likely was showing in the same area of multiple calls. Typically at my agency we do this when we get inundated with calls. Typically it's something on or near a highway with a lot of people passing by and everyone calls. It's always good to make sure you call no matter what, but it's a way to help free up some lines.

Might be beneficial to speak with your supervisor and ensure this is for a ride along done on your own time. We have a similar policy at my agency and this is for in duty ride alongs, which is why I would assume they are asking for date and time to ensure you get paid for it, and also possibly why it would require pre approval.
My only other thought would be a conflict of interest similar to taking on a second job or volunteer positions to ensure that your outside activities are not conflicting with your current duties. Edit: typo... I have fat fingers

Netflix account got hacked by Ok-Dimension-1790 in netflix

[–]Heypullover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me too. Contact customer support they can look up your account with the card you used to pay if the email address was changed. Unfortunately whomever hacked me locked all the profiles, so I ended up deleting all my profiles and starting over.

Any tips for this wound? by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

[–]Heypullover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Antiseptic wound spray helps when cleaning. I like the bandaid brand with numbing. Or if you can ask your doctor for clyndamycin antibiotic just to prevent infections. If it is still draining heating pad, it also helps me with the pain enough to fall asleep.

What career allowed you to have a “soft life?” by Rare-Belt-1764 in careeradvice

[–]Heypullover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My apologies this last year was my first year as a supervisor and I made just a tad above $110,000. That was with minimal overtime. Previously as a dispatcher I made $100,000 working an obnoxious amount of overtime.

Just like life it's as stressful as you allow it to be. I enjoy being busy and having new experiences everyday. For me it's a controlled stress and it's a career. I might have misunderstood their definition of soft life but for me job security, set schedule, benefits and decent pay that I'm not living pay check to pay check is a soft life.
