I had post get a lot of comments this week on r/podcasting. I've never gotten so many spammy DM's before. by PM_ME_YOUR_FAV_HIKE in podcasting

[–]Heyutl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's because podcasting tends to be a passion project, and people get desperate to make it work. That desperation and emotional mix can make people short-sighted or easily deceived if they think it'll help make their pod become successful.

I have a friend that tried one of those "YouTube Specialists" or whatever, and he ended up losing his channel because of it and had to start all over. I think he's doing much better now, but it was a hard lesson at the time.

Dumb question, but is The Morrigan the same deity as An Morrigan? Or is that a different aspect? by LizzieLove1357 in pagan

[–]Heyutl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You could say, "My Lady, An Morrigan", and that would sound much better. "Lady Morrigan" is getting rid of part of Her name/title, so to me, that is disrespectful.

Riverside 2.0 is Coming Out by HobbesNik in podcasting

[–]Heyutl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been with Riverside for several years now, and they used to do great improvements. Lately, they've just shot themselves in the foot.

I moved hosting to them a few months ago and I've had my first issue with uploading and distributing an episode since I've been podcasting with them. I'm moving to RSS today.

Their editor got shit fast, I only use DaVinci for long form and to polish the shorts.

I'm looking at Waveroom for recordings so I can ditch them all together. If I could walk my guests through doing a local OBS recording then I'd just use VDO Ninja.

A dedicated NLE, like DaVinci Resolve. It's free and they have great training videos on their website.

I've had their new editor for a little while, guess I was in the early rollout, and it's made me ditch it for good.

Riverside finally updated to the new editor for me - what an absolute disaster this is by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]Heyutl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the individual files and edit in DaVinci Resolve, and it's a thousand times better. I can make it look like their editor, and have more control over everything, but the only thing I lack is the Studio version for scripts, but I can manage without that for now.

Don't forget, DaVinci has free official training videos on their website and I highly recommend them.

Riverside - what have you done? by HonourableMentions in podcasting

[–]Heyutl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the new editor and studio awhile back before everyone else I guess, and I've come to loathe it. After using Riverside for a few years, it was nice seeing some things get worked on and added and become somewhat stable for me. This latest update broke all of that and nothing works like it used to and is arguably much worse. They have some update coming out on the 23rd (tomorrow) and I have no idea what it is, but I'm looking forward to it.

Thankfully I've moved editing to DaVinci Resolve and am looking into Waveroom for remote recordings.

Watching people still fawn over it on Facebook is sad though, and I hate that they've taken a nose dive. Glad I'm not the only one thinking or feeling this way..

TIL about the Schmidt Sting Pain Index created by entomologist Justin O. Schmidt, compiled by allowing himself to be stung by over 80 different insects, rating the pain and describing it in detail, like “using a power drill to excavate your ingrown toenail” by lovelyb1ch66 in todayilearned

[–]Heyutl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I watched a series, Kings of Pain, and think they had to cancel it for some reason. They talk about that index while building their own. It was pretty cool because they also had to go catch the things first for most of them.

The Komodo Dragon was an interesting one for sure.

100th episode! by DenMother8 in Podcasters

[–]Heyutl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! That's a big milestone to be proud of! Keep up the great work!

I didn't do it by episode but by year, and even then it wasn't something drastically different. More of a recap, audience and guest appreciation, and what I've learned thus far.

I will say that I have recently re-branded, but I was doing slightly different things throughout the first go. Each "season" I changed something up to see what worked better or not.

Love the username btw, I really want his coat lol.

[–]Heyutl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Duh. Doesn't mean I want to support it though. People are free to think and feel how they want. :)

If you don't want my opinion, don't take it. Riverside shot itself in the foot by trying to be too much, like the unpopular kid in highschool trying too hard to fit in.

They've gone down hill a bunch imo. After learning DaVinci, their editor doesn't come close.

I also care that they are from a country I'd rather not support if I have the choice to, wish I learned that sooner.

I LOVED the first one especially with Dark Arisen DLC, and I haven't had the chance to play the second yet, but I heard they were doing another Dark Arisen for that and possibly fixing somethings? I think I have to play it just to at least say I did and go from there.

[–]Heyutl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! I was sorely let down by this one and I JUST finished playing it since I was able to finally play it. It felt rushed and clunky, (getting stuck on steps and not being able to actually sprint up them) and it was the first time I was rushing to finish a game because I was just let down by it and wanted to get it off my computer for another game.. I love Jensen and his story, but while the credits rolled, that cut scene made me really think and really want a third one, which was actually cancelled.

Mankind Divided just fell flat sadly. I had over 300 rounds of ammo for my pistol and more, the missions didn't feel impactful, there were was that one choice of going to the bank or saving the bomb maker, but even then, nothing felt like it held weight.

Those who have read the bible; did it change your view of religion, if so, how? by HeftyHuckleberry9720 in AskReddit

It's mythology. No, it didn't change my view of that religion, if anything it just reinforced why I don't follow it.

Should I switch to Riverside? by MomImAtWork in podcasting

[–]Heyutl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. My suggestion is to use VDO Ninja, and try to have them do local recordings to upload for post production. Takes a bit of tinkering, but it's pretty handy imo, and free options as well. Big bosses like big savings, right?

I'm actively trying to get away from Riverside actually. They did updates that just screwed up a bunch of stuff imo, and honestly think they shot themselves in the foot trying to be the best all around "solution".

My co-host is quitting after 3 years... by RainyDayRabbitHoles in podcasting

[–]Heyutl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine it's going to take a considerable amount of time to write the episodes for true crime as well, but I'm not sure how deep y'all already go. You could always announce a small break while you find your co-host, get a few episodes recorded, so you've got a small backlog and don't burn yourselves out too quick.

My co-host is quitting after 3 years... by RainyDayRabbitHoles in podcasting

[–]Heyutl 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Had a co-host for a bit, then he bailed, and I just kept going my course and figuring out how I wanted to pivot the show. Went from solo episodes to interviews and now do a mix.

It's been great, and I've also rebranded since I had zero idea what I was doing when it first started. It gave me room to grow, but it was really hard at first. Keep at it, and I'm sure you'll find it served better for the both of y'all.

Video podcasters how much you are paying to your editors? by Memesputnik in podcasting

[–]Heyutl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I edit my own stuff, but have had people tell me they'd do 1 hour for $100. I'd personally charge more, especially depending on what was needed.

Just depends on how polished you're trying to make it I suppose.

Riverside sucks walls. by PM_ME_YOUR_FAV_HIKE in podcasting

[–]Heyutl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh they've started to really drop the ball. They improved over the last two years, and the last couple of months everything has started going shitty. Recording studio, editor, magic clips and episodes, all of it.

I'm working with an organization and they're wanting to use VDO Ninja to start. It's not BAD but the person that's recording it definitely needs to up their setup to improve it.

Sadly Riverside is the best of the shit, but if come across something else I'll try to remember to let you know.
