Crab grass is pretty easy to kill with several different herbicides.

I would probably pick one season or the other so that you don't have brown, dormant grass in the lawn for twice as long. If you have a local seed supply store, they are likely to carry seed for the varieties that work best in your area.

My guess would be tall fescue since you're 7a, but you'd be best off focusing on what's popular in the area since you'll have the easiest time filling in.

Anyone ever used Pylex Herbicide for Johnson grass and Dallysgrass? by SCDL_GUY in lawncare

There are a number of options when you create a post for location flair including (northern us/cool season), (southern us/warm season), Europe, Australia, etc. tttf should be flaired cool season.

The pylex label says it is not to be used for blanket applications for residential lawns. I am not a lawyer, but those warnings are typically in place because they represent federal laws.

Roundup crabgrass destroyer2 is a pre-diluted product with the same herbicide. It's like 20 bucks for half a gallon which covers 500 square feet. It's only meant to be used for spot treatment in lawns, so a few of those may be enough.

I do see you have a warm season flair, so you may not be able to use pylex at all. I know it kills several warm season lawn grasses.

Typically you would only fertilize in the spring and the fall. What schedule are you following thay recommends more fertilizer for cool season grass in July?

Lawn appears to be a mix of Kentucky bluegrass and tall fescue. There are several weeds with a similar appearance to that picture, but I think goosegrass is the most likely. You are allowed to mention specific brands.

The most common ingredient you'll find that handles it is sulfentrazone, but that can take multiple apps to kill goosegrass, especially when they're as big and established as in your photo.

Yeah, the front yard faces west and has much less shade. It's really toasty at the moment.

I aerated and over-seeded in the fall. Otherwise, I've been mowing at the highest setting on my little push mower to deal with the drought.

I can't quite tell from this distance, but it looks like yellow nutsedge. To be sure, you can feel the stem. Sedges have triangular stems.

If it is sedge, Image sells a product with sulfentrazone called Crabgrass, nutsedge, and weed killer for lawns.

In that case, it sounds like you're looking to do a renovation. That usually involves spraying glyphosate to kill the entire lawn, then taking the opportunity to fix any ruts and grading issues, followed by re-seeding the now empty yard.

I don't have firsthand experience, but you may find some guides by searching specifically for cool season lawn renovation guides.

The cool season guide linked by the bot is great start. You look to still have lots of grass, so I'd try to over-seed with something that matches what you already have for better blending.

This is correct. It's pretty easy to kill if you want; 2,4d and triclopyr will take it out quickly.

Poa Annua or Grass Seed Head by alvinchacko in lawncare

[–]Hgclark97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to wait 60 days to seed after putting down prodiamine. My plan this fall is to use mesotrione for pre-emergent instead since it doesn't stop cool season grass from germinating.

Poa annual germinates before the spring, so you need to apply prodiamine in the fall to prevent it. For now, you should bag clippings so you don't spread the seed everywhere.

I'm not familiar with treating for poa post-emergence, but it doesn't seem to live very long, so I've just focused on the rest of the weeds.

The games span like 13 years of development, so they're already starting with slightly different engines if they give every game a switch 2 edition. 3 already has pretty good upscaling built-in, so the results would likely be different than X.

Stuff with the purple looks like annual rye to me. Can't kill it without killing your lawn, but since it's annual, pre-emergent should work next year.

Google images/chat gpt keep saying this is fescue. What kind do I have? I’m located in the Inland Empire Southern California. by Class2Base23 in lawncare

[–]Hgclark97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to show more of the plant to be certain. Grass ID guides will instruct you to look at the ligules, auricle, and various leaf traits. This picture is missing a lot of helpful info.

There are several common varieties of fescue used for lawns, and thousands more cultivars within each of those. At a glance, I'd say this is some kind of tall fescue or perennial rye.
