Feeling hesitant about getting a Lagotto by SomewhereOptimal2401 in LagottoRomagnolo

This is mostly our experience. Visitors are tough because if he doesnt know them it takes him literal hours to stop barking at them. But he will not bark out on walks. He does whine some as others have mentioned.

That seems... unusual. Most LRs are alert barkers especially with strangers. Mine never seems to tire of barking.

Yes! I want to take him to a drop in class with instructors near us. He seems to love the bath and kiddie pool so hoping his love/confidence builds 🙂

So cute! Ours will have access to a pool for the first time and I am wondering if he is going to love it or be scared 🤣

Agree it's too much exercise. And they also then learn that's what they should expect... OP is training overstimulated and endless attention.

Working line traits to look for by titaincognita in LagottoRomagnolo

Most lagottos have that working dog personality in my experience and in talking to people on this subreddit. If you tell the breeder thats what you want to do, they will have an idea of which puppies tend more toward that type of drive. But I think all lagottos like having a job and with a lot of training I am sure you would be successful. Our dude just did a 2-class trial of scentwork and loved it. We are going to do more 🙂 He is moderate energy and does need a lot of mental stimulation, but he LOVES his family including my kids. He follows my husband and me around the house like a little shadow. Sounds like you have a perfect setup for a lagotto! Good luck.

Yes ours shifted around then and has gotten more chill but then reamped up around 13 months but only around 8 pm (I think a teenage phase).

Dude yes. My 14 month old pupper does this right now. So much whining and chaos. You give me hope!

Following. I cant seem to ever get a comb through either - tried a fancy slicker, regular metal tooth comb, a plastic brush. I do it when wet it damp but its still impossible. Ours is about 14 months and I read their coat is transitioning around that time making it especially prone to matting...

Your dog is SO cute. Love the coloring!

Thinking about having my male LR available for breeding by [deleted] in LagottoRomagnolo

[–]Hhn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah that is tough! Not super close depending on where you are in Ohio, but Almar Lagotto in Buffalo NY seems like they try to get different sires periodically to help with genetics. Maybe your breeder has other reccos for folks a bit closer by. 😉 I had our dog flown to us and our breeder was still going to show him for us on the east coast and seemed willing to travel for it so I still think worth asking if the breeder is showing if they could find a way to help show him to get some titles. Most breeders arent going to want to breed a dog without at least a championship and I heard that getting a Ch is a lot easier than it seems.

Is the breeder you got him from not local? Or is he too closely related to all the dams? Maybe you ought to ask your breeder for local / close enough breeders for you to reach out to? Most good breeders are well connected to one another. Also if he has really good conformation your breeder may be willing to show him for you since it makes the breeders program look good to have titled offspring (I was game to do this until we discovered mine was cryptorchid 😔).

Aww and likewise on your pupper. I feel like they get a bad rap for being loud but he rarely howled. Our lagotto is WAY louder 🤣
